
Knights Beat the Redbirds 3-2 on Thursday Night

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Shortstop Romy Gonzalez ripped an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning to propel the Charlotte Knights to a thrilling 3-2 win over the Memphis Redbirds on Thursday night from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. The win was Charlotte's first of the season at home.
With the game tied at 2-2, first baseman Zach Remillard led the bottom of the eighth inning off with a single. After Charlotte's next two batters recorded outs, Remillard stole second base to give the Knights a runner in scoring position with two outs. Enter Romy Gonzalez.
Facing Memphis reliever Brandon Waddell (0-1, 9.00), Gonzalez connected on connected on his first double of the season to score Remillard and give the Knights a 3-2 lead. That was all the Knights needed to finish off Memphis for the first time head-to-head in six-career games as a Triple-A foe.
Charlotte RHP Johan Dominguez was sharp in his 2022 debut with the team on Thursday. Dominguez struck-out nine batters over 4.2 innings pitched. He allowed just one run on four hits. Charlotte's bullpen was strong in relief of Dominguez, allowing just one run over the final 4.1 innings. LHP Hunter Schryver earned the win out of the Charlotte 'pen and LHP Andrew Perez notched his first save after a solid ninth inning of work. Perez fanned two batters in the final frame.
Remillard had a solid day at the plate. The Charlotte infielder went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a double and a stolen base. Charlotte third baseman Ryder Jones drove home a run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Knights will continue the series against the Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals) at 7:04 p.m. on Friday night. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night The game will air live on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
