CLEVELAND, OHIO - Joonas Nattinen scored a highlight-reel goal, Nick Sorkin notched his first tally as a professional and Robert Mayer made 30 saves as the Hamilton Bulldogs (33-34-1-7) edged the Lake Erie Monsters (30-33-1-10) 2-1 on Tuesday evening at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
After a scoreless first period, Nattinen got his team on the board first when he went end-to-end, toe-dragged past Lake Erie defenceman Karl Stollery, then fired the puck top shelf past Monsters goaltender Calvin Pickard. Nattinen's eighth goal of the season, scored unassisted, came at 10:18 of the second period.
Just over three minutes later, with Lake Erie on the power play, Monsters forward Mark Olver fired a point shot through a screen, which was deflected by forward Andrew Agozzino past Mayer. Forward Colin Smith had a second assist on the play.
Sorkin scored the eventual game winner at 2:34 of the third period when he tipped a wrist shot by forward Sven Andrighetto. Forward Christian Thomas had a second assist on Sorkin's first goal of the season.
