The Binghamton Senators continued its overtime dominance with a 5-4 win over the visiting Hershey Bears. Derek Grant scored 3:39 into the extra period to give the B-Sens its ninth win in overtime.

The B-Sens took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to Chris Wideman's 9th goal of the season scored at the 17:43 mark. Nathan Lawson, who started in net for Binghamton, stopped all 17 Hershey shots faced in the period while David Leggio turned aside eight of nine B-Sens chances.

Hershey evened the score up 1-1 just over a minute into the second period when Nate Schmidt collected a B-Sens turnover and beat Lawson over the glove for his second marker of the season. Binghamton retook the lead when Mike Sdao pushed home a loose puck at the 11:35 spot of the frame. Less than 60 seconds later, Matt Puempel recorded his 29th goal of the year off assists from Shane Prince and Ryan Dzingel to move the score to 3-1.

Hershey managed to tie the score 3-3 on back-to-back goals from Dane Byers and Michael Latta putting the teams deadlocked going into the final intermission.

The Bears took their lone lead of the evening just 3:58 into the final period when Casey Wellman beat Lawson for his 19th tally of the year.

Less than 30 seconds later, David Dziurzynski evened the score at 4-4 when he managed to redirect a shot from Derek Grant past Leggio for his 11th goal on the year. Lawson went to the locker room favoring his knee following Dziurzynski's goal and yielded goaltending duties to Andrew Hammond for the remainder of the game.

Binghamton needed just two shots on net in the extra frame to steal the bonus point and remain in first place in the East Division.

Despite coming into the game cold, Hammond played solid stopping all nine shots faced to earn his 24th victory of the year. Derek Grant finished with a goal and an assist to lead Binghamton while David Kolomatis and Ryan Potulny ended their nights for Hershey with a pair of helpers. Leggio stopped 26 of 31 shots faced as he fell to 22-18-3 on the year.

Saturday, April 12: Binghamton 1, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 2

The B-Sens fell 2-1 in Wilkes-Barre Saturday in a battle for sole possession of first place in the East Division. Scott Harrington scored the go-ahead goal 8:14 into the final period for the Penguins lone lead of the night to give the hosts the victory and a guaranteed spot in the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs.

Binghamton survived Wilkes-Barre's early five-on-three man advantage before taking a 1-0 advantage into the first intermission. Dzingel scored his first professional goal at the 19:13 mark of the period when he successfully pushed home a rebound from his own shot past Penguins goaltender Peter Mannino. Hammond stopped all eight Wilkes-Barre scoring chances in the opening 20 minutes of play.

Second period possession leaned in Binghamton's favor for the majority of the stanza as they appeared to be headed to the final period leading 1-0. Despite the B-Sens holding a late man advantage, the Penguins tied the game 1-1 with 16 seconds remaining in the period on a goal from Carter Rowney.

Wilkes-Barre managed to score on just their second shot of the third period when Scott Harrington completed a 3-on-1 rush at 8:14 of the final frame. Mannino stood tall in net for Wilkes-Barre as they carried the strong defensive effort to a 2-1 win while clinching a berth in the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs.

Both the Penguins and B-Sens ended the night 0 for 5 on the power-play. Hammond turned aside 15 of 17 shots faced while Mannino stopped 15 of 16.

Sunday, April 13: Binghamton 0, Hershey 1 (OT)

PP: Binghamton 0 for 3, Hershey 0 for 3

Binghamton managed to clinch a berth in the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs despite falling 1-0 in overtime Sunday evening to their host the Hershey Bears. Byers notched the game-winning goal 2:24 into the overtime period to give the hosts the 1-0 win.

Binghamton and Hershey played to a scoreless first period despite the B-Sens getting a late 5-on-3 power-play chance late in the frame. Hammond stopped all 10 shots faced in the opening 20 minutes while his counterpart Philipp Grubauer turned aside 13 Binghamton shots to keep the score 0-0.

Following back-to-back scoreless periods, the game headed to overtime and clinched a playoff berth for Binghamton, who needed just a point coming into the contest.

Byers beat Hammond between the pads for his 15th goal of the year pushing Hershey into the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Hammond finished the night stopping 38 of 39 shots faced while Grubauer stifled all 41 shots faced to earn the bonus point for Hershey.

Binghamton secured a postseason berth with the one point earned following Sunday's 1-0 overtime loss to Hershey. The B-Sens look to end their regular season on a winning streak with three straight home games this week. A win Wednesday and a win on Friday will give Binghamton its first East Division title since the 2004-05 season.

THIS WEEK...

Wednesday, April 16 vs. Toronto Marlies (Toronto Maple Leafs)-7:05p.m.

The B-Sens will host Toronto for the first time this season in the final matchup of their short two-game season series. The Marlies, who just recently clinched its third straight North Division title, bested the Sens 4-2 back on February 26 in Toronto.

Defenseman T.J. Brennan (24+45), who was recently named to the 2014 AHL All-Star First Team, leads the Marlies offensively along with right wing Spencer Abbott (17+52) with 69 points. Johnson City native Jerry D'Amigo has tallied 20 goals and 31 points over 49 games played this season with Toronto.

Goaltender Drew MacIntyre has seen action in 46 games this year going 27-15-3 with 2.49 goals-against average and a 0.918 save percentage. Backup Garret Sparks has played in 21 contests compiling an 11-6-1 record with a 2.63 goals-against average and a 0.915 save percentage.

Friday, April 18 vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh Penguins)-7:05p.m.

Binghamton welcomes division foe Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday for the final meeting of their eight-game season series. A win Wednesday and a victory over the Penguins will clinch the division title for Binghamton.

Right winger Tom Kostopoulos leads the Penguins with 46 points (22+24) over 70 games played.

Goaltender Jeff Deslauriers has played in 40 games this year while compiling a 20-15-3 record with 2.58 goals-against average and a 0.895 save percentage. Peter Mannino has played strong between the net as of late and has gone 11-3-1 in 17 games with an impressive 1.35 goals-against average and a 0.941 save percentage.

Saturday, April 19 vs. Norfolk Admirals (Anaheim Ducks)-7:05p.m.

The B-Sens round out their regular season with a 7:05p.m. matchup against the Norfolk Admirals. Norfolk is currently in a battle with fellow division rival Hershey for the eighth and final spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Former B-Sen Andre Petersson leads the Admirals with 52 points (22+32) over 52 games played. Fellow right winger Emerson Etem has 51 points in just 48 games played this season with Norfolk.

Goaltender John Gibson has played in 45 games this year compiling a 21-17-4 record but is on recall with Norfolk's NHL affiliate the Anaheim Ducks. Brad Thiessen has played in 16 games this year going 6-6-2 with 2.29 goals-against average and a 0.932 save percentage.

Friday night is our Fan Appreciation Night as Binghamton looks to lock up the East Division title with a win against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The first 3,000 fans through the gates will receive a special B-Sens Team Photo.

Pregame festivities will include Corey Cowick presenting the American Cancer Society with a check totaling his efforts during his "Cowick Fights For A Cure" campaign as well as a ceremonial puck drop from a very dedicated Binghamton fan, McKenna Ruland. Four-year-old McKenna raised over $500 to donate to Cowick's Relay for Life Team that in total has nearly $10,000 since November for cancer research.

Fans can save money on tickets for Friday night by taking advantage of the Friday-2-Pack or presenting a Price Chopper AdvantEdge Card when purchasing their seats. The Friday-2-Pack, which is only available through the B-Sens Executive Office on the Arena's 3rd floor, includes two tickets (sections 6-10), two hotdogs and two sodas for just $32. The Price Chopper AdvantEdge Card discount gives fans $4 off for their tickets that evening with a limit of two tickets per card.

Saturday night fans will get to see the 2014 Player Awards being presented in a pregame ceremony starting at 7:05p.m. Awards being presented include Most Valuable Player, Top Defenseman, Rookie of the Year as well as community awards including the Hans Petersen Award and Win Warner Award.

First and second intermissions will feature the Jack Sherman Toyota Chuck-A-Puck Car Giveaway. Qualifying contestants from all prior home games this regular season will try their luck as they see if their key opens the doors to a brand new Toyota.

Also on Saturday the Binghamton Mets are scheduled to be signing autographs starting at 6:00p.m. when the doors open.

SENS SNIPPETS...

Forward Ryan Dzingel scored his first professional goal in a 2-1 loss to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday, April 12. Dzingel has one goal and three assists in his first six games since joining Binghamton.

Rookie defenseman Cody Ceci was reassigned to Binghamton on April 14 for the first time since his recall to Ottawa back on December 12. In 24 games with the B-Sens this season Ceci has posted 17 points (2+15) along with a plus-8 on ice rating.
