Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA - Omaha Royals center fielder Adrian Brown will represent Omaha on the Pacific Coast League's All-Star team. Brown is the lone Royal on the team, announced today by the PCL office in Colorado Springs. The PCL All-Stars will battle the International League All-Stars in the 18th annual Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 13th at Raley Field in Sacramento, California.

Brown, in his second season in the Royals' organization, ranks second in the PCL with 23 stolen bases. The 31-year old switch-hitter has played in all but one of Omaha's 74 games through Wednesday, hitting .269 with eleven doubles, a club-leading six triples and four home runs. Brown has scored a team-leading 52 runs, adding 25 RBI. The Royals leadoff batter has more walks (39) than strikeouts (38). The fleet-footed outfielder has also made several outstanding plays with his glove, committing only two errors.

Brown was not elected as a starting outfielder, but was selected along with seven other non-starting position players to the All-Star squad. The All-Star team is made up of at least one player from every club and is selected by club field personnel, media representatives and League administrators.

Rick Short, who played for Omaha last season but is now with New Orleans, was elected as the starting Designated Hitter for the PCL All-Stars. Sacramento pitcher Jimmy Serrano, who pitched for Omaha the last two seasons, was also named to the squad.

The 2005 International League All-Star Team, announced yesterday, included Buffalo outfielder Ernie Young. Young - at 36 the oldest member of either All-Star squad - played for Omaha in 1998. Also on the I.L. club is Ottawa left-hander Tim Byrdak, who pitched for Omaha from 1998-2000.

From 1988 through 1997, the Triple-A All-Star Game pitted American League affiliated teams against National League affiliated clubs. Since 1998, the PCL has taken on the IL in the Triple-A mid-summer classic. The PCL is 4-3, winning four straight from 1999 through 2002.

The 2005 Triple-A All-Star Game will be televised live on ESPN2 and can be heard on the Royals local station, Magic 1490.
