Three Sidewinders named to All-Star team

Tucson, AZ-Three Tucson Sidewinders have been selected to participate in the 2005 Triple-A All-Star Game inclduding First Baseman Conor Jackson, Second Baseman Andy Green, and Righthanded Pitcher Jason Bulger. The PCL All-Star Team will take on the International League All-Stars in the 18th annual Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 13th at Raley Field in Sacramento, CA.

In his first season with the Sidewinders, Jackson, 23, currently leads all qualifying minor leaguers with a .383 (95-for-248) batting average and paces the PCL in hits (95), doubles (29), and on-base percentage (.470). The game will mark the second All-Star selection for Jackson in just his second full professional season. Jackson also played in the California League All-Star game last season. Conor has also been named to the year's Futures Game set to take place during the Major League All-Star break.

Green, 27, is currently pacing the PCL in runs scored (58), trails only his teammate Jackson in hits (93), and also ranks in the top ten in the league in batting average (.335), doubles (22), triples (8), and extra-base hits (37). Green has played parts of three seasons with the Sidewinders and earned his first Major League call-up from Tucson last year on June 10th. Bulger, 26, has has struck out more than a batter an inning with a 3.82 ERA and a pair of saves out of the Sidewinders pen in his first taste of Triple-A action. The Diamondbacks 2001 first round pick paces Sidewinders hurlers in appearances with 32 and is currently tied for second in the PCL in the category.

Jackson, Green, and Bulger will join Sidewinders Pitching Coach Mike Parrott who was previously named to the team's coaching staff under Manager Tony DeFrancesco (Sacramento) and beside fellow coach Bobby Jones (Oklahoma).

Sidewinders selected to the Triple-A All-Star Game in recent history include C Craig Ansman and 1B Steve Neal in 2004, 3B Chad Tracy, IF Mike Bell, and LHP Chris Capuano in 2003, 1B Lyle Overbay and C Chad Moeller in 2002, and 1B Jack Cust in 2001.

The first Triple-A All-Star Game was held in 1988 when National League affiliated teams would compete against American League affiliated teams. This format was followed until 1998 when it was changed to have the PCL All-Stars compete against the IL All-Stars. The PCL is 4-3, winning four straight from 1999 through 2002. Last year the PCL was defeated by the IL in Pawtucket 4-3 on a walk-off homer in the 10th inning by Andy Phillips of the Columbus Clippers.

The 2005 Triple-A All-Star Game will be televised live on ESPN2 and can be heard on the Sidewinders flagship station COOL 1450 AM.
