Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, TX. - Express starting pitcher Taylor Buchholz and third baseman Mike Coolbaugh were selected to the 2005 Pacific Coast League (PCL) All-Star Team. The PCL All-Star team will compete against the International League's All-Stars in the 18th Annual Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 13th, at Raley Field in Sacramento, California.

Buchholz, who has a 6-0 record with a 3.88 ERA in twelve starts, was also named to the Florida State League All-Star team in 2002. Buchholz was part of the trade that brought fellow Express pitchers' Ezequiel Astacio and Brandon Duckworth to the Astros from the Phillies in 2003.

Third baseman Mike Coolbaugh, who is batting .290 with 17 home runs (third best in the PCL) and 57 RBI (third best in the PCL), is also making a return trip to the All-Star Game. Coolbaugh was a Florida State League All-Star in 1996. Coolbaugh has also played spectacular defense for the Express. His .984 fielding percentage is second in the league at the third base position.

The PCL coaching staff will consist of Manager Tony DeFrancesco (Sacramento RiverCats), Pitching Coach Mike Parrott (Tucson Sidewinders), Coach Bobby Jones (Oklahoma) and trainer Walt Horn (Sacramento RiverCats).

The Pacific Coast League All-Star team consists of one or more players from each club, whom are selected by club field personnel, media representatives, and League administrators.

The first Triple-A All-Star Game was held in 1988 when National League affiliated teams competed against American League affiliated teams. In 1998, the all-star games were changed to be a match up between the PCL All-Stars against the IL All-Stars.

Since 1998, the PCL has competed against the IL in the Triple-A mid-summer classic. The PCL is 4-3, winning four straight from 1999 through 2002. Last year the PCL were defeated by the IL in Pawtucket, 4-3, with a walk-off homer in the 10th inning by Andy Phillips of the Columbus Clippers.

The 2005 Triple-A All-Star Game will be televised live on ESPN2 and can be heard on each team's local radio stations, as well as on the American Forces Radio.

Express starting pitcher Fernando Nieve, who made his Triple-A debut for the Express on June 20th, has been selected to participate in the 7th annual All-Star Futures Game. The game will be held Sunday, July 10th at Detroit's Comerica Park as part of the Major League Baseball's All-Star Week. Nieve, who was also named to the Texas League All-Star team in 2005, posted a 4-3 record with a 2.65 ERA (3rd in TL) in fourteen starts for the Hooks. He also leads the TL in strikeouts with 96 in 85 innings of work.
