Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Angel Chavez and Yamid Haad each went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, and the Fresno Grizzlies overcame two deficits to defeat the Portland Beavers 7-5 in front of 7,395 Thursday night at PGE Park.

Fresno starter Brad Hennessey stuck around long enough for the win. Hennessey (4-2)gave up five runs and struck out six in five innings.

Former Beaver Jeremy Fikac worked three scoreless innings and Jeremy Accardo notched his first save with the Grizzlies by pitching the ninth.

Miguel Asencio suffered his third loss in as many starts for the Beavers, who had a modest three-game win streak snapped. Asencio (0-3) allowed six runs (4 earned) over five innings.

Ben Johnson was 3-for-5 with a three-run homer in the bottom of the first that gave the Beavers (37-37) their first of two leads.

The Grizzlies (36-38) trailed 4-1 and 5-4 before taking the lead for good in the fifth.

Chavez' solo home run gave the Sidewinders a brief lead in the first.

Hennessey allowed the first two batters to reach base in the bottom of the first, and Johnson launched his club-leading 16th home run to give Portland a 3-1 advantage. Greg Sain, playing his second game with the club, upped that by a run with his first Triple-A hit, a mammoth solo shot to straightaway center field with two outs in the inning.

Fresno would be heard from again in the second, striking for three runs off Asencio to tie the game. Jed Hansen doubled and scored, while Julio Ramirez evened things at 4-4 with a two-run double.

Jesse Garcia scored on a fielder's choice in the fourth to reinstate Portland's lead, but Fresno took the lead in the fifth on an RBI double by Chavez and a run-scoring single to center by Mike Cervenak.

Haad added his second home run of the series in the eighth inning.

The Beavers conclude their homestand Friday night at PGE Park. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
