Watson, Serrano to represent River Cats on PCL All-Star Team

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- River Cats outfielder Matt Watson and starting pitcher Jimmy Serrano were among those honored today as the Pacific Coast League named its 2005 All-Star Team. The 2005 Triple-A All-Star Game will be held Wednesday, July 13th at Raley Field. Both players were selected to the PCL All-Star team as reserves. River Cats' Manager Tony DeFrancesco and Trainer Walt Horn were previously selected to represent the home team as well.

The selection marks' the first Triple-A All-Star appearance for Watson, who was a member of the River Cats' 2004 Pacific Coast League Championship Club. A native of Lancaster, PA, Watson was acquired by the Oakland A's when he was claimed on waivers from the New York Mets following the 2003 season. Entering the club's June 22nd game at Las Vegas, the left-handed batting outfielder has started 50 games in RF for the River Cats and leads the team in batting average (.322) and SLG (.512). In his 12 games with the A's this season, Watson has hit .152 (5-for-33) with 2 2B and 3 RBI.

2005 is Jimmy Serrano's first in the A's organization after spending the first seven seasons of his career with the Expos, Mets and Royals systems. The right-hander leads all River Cats in Wins (7), Games Started (14), Innings Pitched (79.0) and Strikeouts (82) and has accumulated a 5-2 record with a 3.00 ERA at Raley Field. Serrano, who hails from Grand Junction, CO, was signed by the A's as a Minor League Free Agent in November.
