Round Rock Express News Release
(MEMPHIS, TN) - Right-hander Tim McClaskey making only his third Triple-A appearance and first start at Triple-A, found out what a lot of Triple-A pitchers know. If you walk hitters, they almost always score. McClaskey walked four, one intentionally and three of those scored.
Memphis won the game 12-3 but Round Rock actually had a 2-0 lead on a lead-off single by 3B Mike Coolbaugh, a one out, RBI double by Brooks Conrad, and a two out, RBI single by McClaskey that made it 2-0 Round Rock.
The Redbirds matched the two Round Rock runs in the bottom of the second inning on a two-run triple off the bat of SS John Nelson.
Memphis starter Mark Nussbeck settled in and in one stretch retired eleven batters in a row. Nussbeck notched his first win on the season, running his record to 1-3.
McClaskey gave up a two-run homer in the third inning to LF John Gall that put Memphis up, 4-2.
But in the sixth inning the Round Rock starter walked 1B Chris Duncan to lead off the inning and that spelled trouble. C Mike Mahoney drilled a two-run double that led to the end of the outing for McClaskey. As reliever Denny McDaniel came on, he was greeted by a three-run, pinch hit homer from Brandon Berger, and Memphis led 9-2.
McDaniel gave up a solo homer in the seventh inning to 1B Chris Duncan to make it 10-2.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Express reliever Travis Driskill surrendered two more runs to make it 12-2.
In the top of the ninth inning, newly elected PCL All-Star 3B Mike Coolbaugh ripped a solo home run to right center field, his 18th of the season, but it was too little, too late, as the Express fell 12-3 to the Redbirds.
The four game series ends with a 7:05 PM start on Friday night at Auto Zone Park in Memphis. Right-hander Taylor Buchholz goes to the mound for the E-Train against lefty Bill Pulsipher. The Express return home to The Dell Diamond to take on the Albuquerque Isotopes in a four game series Saturday, June 25. Game time is set for 7:05 PM.
