Ontario Reign News Release
Bakersfield, CA - Forwards Jonny Brodzinski and Kris Newbury each scored a goal and an assist to propel the Ontario Reign (43-18-4-1) over the Bakersfield Condors (28-28-7-2) 4-2 Saturday night at Rabobank Arena.
Box Score The Condors opened the scoring early in the contest when forward Josh Currie snapped a shot under the glove of Reign netminder Peter Budaj (W, 31 saves on 33 shots) at 4:12 of the first period. The Reign responded at 15:48 as forward Justin Auger fought off two Condors defenders to bury a drive under the pads of Condors goalie Ty Rimmer (L, 40 saves on 43 shots). Newbury and Joel Lowery added assists.
The two sides traded tallies in the second period for a 2-2 deadlock heading into the intermission. Condors forward Philip McRae reclaimed the lead for the Condors 1:12 into the period off a Reign turnover. Moments later, forward Adrian Kempe capitalized on the power play with help from defenseman Derek Forbort and forward Jonny Brodzinski at 6:04.
Brodzinski netted the game-winning goal 1:21 into the third period, sneaking a shot over the blocker of Rimmer off a Nick Ebert rebound. Newbury added an empty-net insurance marker with 59 seconds to play.
Reign goaltender Peter Budaj earned his AHL-leading 39th victory of the season with a season-high 46 saves.
The Reign finished the game 1-for-5 on the power play while the Condors went 0-for-4.
