Tagg Bozied, who is currently leading the Eastern League in batting average with an impressive .314 mark, was named as the Eastern League's Player of the Week for the week ending August 22, as announced by the Eastern League earlier today.

Bozied, 31, hit .455 with ten hits, three doubles, four home runs, 11 RBIs, and seven runs scored during the week, and helped lead the R-Phils to back-to-back wins on August 17-18. On August 17 in Reading, Bozied launched two key home runs to help get the R-Phils past the Aeros 9-7. A day later, Bozied homered again -- a two-run blast, which tied the game 2-2, and helped the R-Phils to a 3-2 victory.

For the season, the Sioux Falls, SD native is hitting a league-best .314 with a team-high 21 home runs and a team-high 81 RBIs - both good for fifth in the Eastern League. Injured in the June 24 game against Bowie, Bozied missed 15-straight games, before returning on July 10. Five days later, Bozied was placed on the disabled list with a strained left quad. In all, the University of San Francisco product missed 31 games due to injury - but has returned on-fire.

Currently, Bozied is in the midst of a 12-game hitting streak, and during the month of August, the 2010 Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star is hitting .387 with eight home runs and 24 RBIs through 18 games. Over his last ten games, Bozied is hitting .444 with five home runs and 16 RBIs.

Originally signed as a Minor League free-agent by Philadelphia this past off-season, Bozied entered 2010 with a career .279 batting average, 122 home runs and 434 RBIs through nine Minor League seasons. In 2008, as a member of Albuquerque (AAA), he hit .306 with a career-high 26 home runs and 80 RBIs.

Three other Reading Phillies' players have been honored with the Eastern League's weekly award this season -- RHP Phillippe Aumont (week ending April 25), center fielder Quintin Berry (week ending June 13), and Matt Rizzotti (week ending June 27).

Trenton Thunder RHP Adam Warren was named as the Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week. Warren posted a 1-0 mark and tossed seven shutout frames in a 3-0 win over the Bowie Baysox on Thursday. Warren fanned a franchise-record 15 batters en-route to the victory.
