TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and the Reading Phillies will meet in the opener of a three-game series...The Flying Squirrels earned a series-clinching win in the finale of their three-game set at Bowie with a 4-0 shutout of the Baysox on Sunday night at Prince George's Stadium.
TONIGHT'S STARTERS: Right-hander Mike MacDonald gets the start in the series opener for the Flying Squirrels...Suffered the loss in his last outing at New Britain 8/18...Allowed three runs on four hits in seven innings...Struck out six batters and walked none...Gave up a two-run homer to Jair Fernandez after hitting Steve Singleton to start the bottom of the second inning...Allowed the leadoff batter to reach in two of his seven innings, scored both times...Recorded 10 ground outs and five fly outs...Threw 93 pitches, 64 strikes...Threw first-pitch strikes to 19 of the 27 batters that he faced...Earned his eighth quality start in 20 total...Is 2-2 with a 3.13 ERA (11 er/31.2 ip) in five outings since rejoining the starting rotation 7/25...Has struck out 19 batters and walked two over his last 31 2/3 innings (five starts)...Is tied for fourth among Eastern League starters in fewest walks per nine innings at 1.84 (22 bb/107.1 ip)...Left-handed batters are hitting .341 (63-for-185) against him...Is 0-4 with a 9.00 ERA (19 er/19 ip) in four starts against Reading this season.

SHUTDOWN SQUIRRELS: The Flying Squirrels recorded their ninth shutout of the season in last night's 4-0 win over Bowie...It was Richmond's first shutout since blanking New Hampshire 10-0 at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium 8/5...The club has tossed two shutouts in its last 82 games after throwing seven shutouts through its first 43 contests.
THOMAS THE TRAIN: Outfielder Thomas Neal has hits in each of his last six games, his team-leading 10th hit streak of five games or more...The 23-year-old is 8-for-23 (.348) with four doubles, a home run, four RBI, and five runs scored...Nine of Neal's total 11 home runs have come on the road...He is tied for second in the Eastern League in hits (140) and ranks third in doubles (37)...Since 6/1, Neal is batting .318 (88-for-277) in 72 games with 26 doubles, eight home runs, 39 RBI, and 47 runs scored...He has raised his batting average from .255 to .294 over that span.
THE WEATHER MAN: Third baseman Conor Gillaspie has hits in each of his last six contests, his sixth hit streak of five games or more which is second-most on the club...The 23-year-old is 10-for-25 (.400) over his last six games with four doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored... Since 7/1, he is batting .367 (58-for-158) with 12 doubles, three triples, two home runs, 24 RBI, and 19 runs scored...Gillaspie has raised his batting average from .254 to .295 since 7/1...His .295 average is his highest since batting .333 three games into the season...He also ranks second on the team with runners in scoring position, hitting .320 (41-for-128) in that situation (minimum 20 at-bats).
UNBUCKLING THE BELT: In 120 games combined between Advanced-A San Jose and Double-A Richmond, first baseman Brandon Belt ranks second all of minor league baseball in batting average (.360), is second in on-base percentage (.460), is tied for third in slugging percentage (.622) and is fourth in RBI (100)...The 22-year-old is batting .429 (21-for-49) with runners in scoring position in 43 games with the Flying Squirrels and is hitting .397 (54-for-136) overall with runners in scoring position this season.
RAY OF SUNSHINE: Right-hander Ronnie Ray tossed a scoreless inning in last night's 4-0 win over the Baysox...He has fired 11 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings, his longest scoreless streak of the season, with 11 strikeouts and three walks spanning his last nine outings, and opposing hitters are just 4-for-38 (.105) against him over that stretch...Since 6/20, the 26-year-old is 2-0 with two saves and has allowed just four runs, two earned in 30 1/3 innings (0.59 ERA) while striking out 33 batters and walking seven spanning his last 25outings...Opposing hitters are batting .136 (14-for-103) against him over that stretch.
DOUBLETREE DOWNTOWN DOUBLE PLAYS: The Richmond Flying Squirrels have turned 152 double plays in 125 games including six on 5/7 in Harrisburg...The Flying Squirrels have not gone more than three games without a double play this season...The club leads the Eastern League in double plays turned.
CFS STAT OF THE NIGHT: Right-hander Andy Sisco struck out a season-high six batters over three innings in last night's 4-0 win over the Baysox...It was the most strikeouts in a professional affiliated game for the 27-year-old since he fanned eight batters 9/1/07 at Durham while pitching with Triple-A Charlotte...It was the fifth time this season that he tossed three innings, his longest outing of the year.
