Senators and Nationals Announce Extension to Player Development Agreement
August 23, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
Harrisburg, PA - In a joint announcement with the Washington Nationals, the Harrisburg Senators are pleased to announce a two-year extension to their player development agreement. With this extension, the Senators will remain a Nationals' affiliate through the conclusion of the 2012 season. This year marks the sixth season of the Senators affiliation with the Nationals, and the 20th season with the Washington Nationals/Montreal Expos.
Since Montreal moved to Washington for the 2005 season, 29 Senators have made their major league debut with the Nationals. This season, 13 former Senators have been on the Nationals roster at one time or another including INF Ian Desmond, RHP Stephen Strasburg and RHP Drew Storen. Strasburg and Storen made their big league debuts this season and Desmond last September. In all, 91 players since 2005 have worn a major league uniform and a Senators uniform.
"We are very pleased to make this announcement," according to Senators' President Kevin Kulp. "The excitement this year at new Metro Bank Park with Stephen Strasburg, and now the playoff race, adds a whole new dimension to our on-going relationship with the Nationals."
Harrisburg is currently 67-59, and leads Bowie by one game for the second and final playoff spot in the Eastern League. The Senators are six-time Eastern League Champions with five of them coming as an affiliate of the Washington Nationals/Montreal Expos. The Senators last won the Eastern League in 1999 and last made the playoffs in 2002. As an affiliate of the Nationals/Expos the Senators record is 1446-1363 for a .515 winning percentage.
The Senators opened brand-new seat Metro Bank Park this season and have already drawn their three largest crowds in franchise history. Sometime on this last regular season homestand, the Senators will surpass their all-time attendance record of 279,691 set in 2001.
The Senators open their final regular season homestand tonight against the Portland Sea Dogs. The Senators have three against Portland followed by four games against Trenton. Game times are 7:00pm Monday through Saturday with Sunday's game at 2:00pm. Tickets for any of these games are available 9:00am to the fifth inning each day this week either in person or by phone at 231-4444 option 2. Tickets are also available online 24 hours a day through the Senators website at www.senatorsbaseball.com.
