Last week, as a member of the Blue Jays, Matt Boyd failed to record an out and gave up seven earned runs in the loss, and was ultimately sent back down to Buffalo. Boyd had to make sure another performance like that wouldn't happen again. And if Monday was any indication, he won't be having outings like that for a while.

The Bisons defeated the RailRiders, 6-2, in the final matchup of the four-game series at PNC Field on Monday. The Herd defeated Scranton/Wilkes-Barre three out of four in the series and now lead the season series, 5-4. Buffalo has now won five of its last six games, dating back to July 2.

The young southpaw picked up his second victory with the Bisons after turning in a sterling performance in the victory. Boyd threw seven innings and only gave up two earned runs while striking out eight in the process.

Boyd gave up an early homerun to Rob Refsnyder in the second inning and allowed an RBI double later in the fifth in his only blemishes of the day. But each time he gave up a run, he was still in position to pick up the win thanks to a poignant Herd offense.

The Buffalo offense accounted for six runs for the second consecutive game, but exploded for 14 hits in the process. Every starting position player had at least one hit, with four Bisons earning two or more. The Bisons nearly doubled the RailRider's hitting totals (14-8).

Brad Glenn led the Herd in offense, going 3-for-4 in the victory, but Melky Mesa led the way in RBI. Mesa drove in two RBI on isolated doubles in the fourth and eighth innings, respectively. Mesa finished the night going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a pair of walks.

Blake McFarland and Bobby Korecky each pitched a scoreless inning of relief after Boyd exited the game in the seventh.

Buffalo will continue its roadtrip when it travels to Syracuse for a three-game series, beginning on Tuesday. The Herd will then come home for another three-game series with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before the All-Star break. Tuesday's game is set for 7:05 p.m.

BISONS NOTES:

Buffalo left a total of 24 runners on base ... Matt Hague picked up two more hits and raised his league leading average to .340
