July 6, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (36-50) allowed four runs in the bottom of the ninth and fell to the Rochester Red Wings (45-39) by a score of 10-8 in the series finale on Monday night at Frontier Field.
Oswaldo Arcia's walk-off three-run homer off of LHP Adam Loewen gave the Red Wings the 10-8 win. Reynaldo Rodriguez had provided an RBI single earlier in the frame to bring the Wings within 8-7 and set the stage for Arcia.
Loewen (0.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER) took the loss for the Pigs and drops to 1-3 on the season.
RHP A.J. Achter (1.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER) blew the save in the top of the ninth but earned the win for the Red Wings and is now 4-2 on the season.
In the home half of the first, Jose Martinez gave Rochester an early 2-0 lead with a two-out, two-run double to left.
Aaron Altherr's three-run shot in the top of the third opened up a 3-2 lead for the Pigs. It was Altherr's third homer since being promoted to Triple-A.
IronPigs starter Anthony Vasquez (n/d) gave up three runs on six hits while walking two and fanning two over five innings of work.
Red Wings starter Pat Dean (n/d) gave up four runs on six hits to go along with six strikeouts in 7.0 IP.
Lehigh Valley added a run in the fifth to make it 4-2 as Chase d'Arnaud (4-5, 3B, RBI, 2 R, 2 SB) tripled to center with one out and scored on Tyler Henson's sac fly.
Henson had extended his hitting streak to nine games with a single in the third.
Rochester got a run back to cut the lead to 4-3 in the home half of the same frame as they loaded the bases with one out before Rodriguez drove home a run with a sac fly.
Trailing 4-3, the Red Wings got the lead back with a three-run sixth to open up a 6-4 lead for the time being. Eric Farris delivered a run with an RBI double, Jorge Polanco came through with an RBI single and James Beresford reached on an RBI fielder's choice which allows a run to score.
The three runs were charged to RHP Chris Leroux (0.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB).
With things tied at 6-6 and runners at the corners with one out in the ninth, Edgar Duran successfully executed a suicide squeeze to score Chris McGuiness and give the Pigs a 7-6 lead. McGuiness had tied it earlier in the frame with a two-run double to score Russ Canzler and Cord Phelps (2-4, 2B, R) who had reached via back-to-back singles. d'Arnaud also came through with an RBI single in the inning to tack on an insurance run to make it 8-6 in favor of Lehigh Valley for the time being.
RHP Nefi Ogando (1.2 IP, H, 2 K) and LHP Cesar Jimenez (1.0 IP) had scoreless outings in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.
The Pigs will head home to begin a three-game set with the Pawtucket Red Sox at Coca-Cola Park on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 as RHP David Buchanan (2-0, 2.53) gets the ball for Lehigh Valley against Pawtucket RHP Steven Wright (2-3, 3.00).
