Buffalo Bisons News Release

BUFFALO, NY - In the penultimate game of this seven-game series, the Buffalo Bisons fell to the Syracuse Mets 4-2 on Saturday night from Sahlen Field.

Thomas Hatch made the start for the Herd and threw five shutout innings while allowing four hits and three walks in addition to striking out five.

The Bisons had a great opportunity to strike in the top of the first, but both Otto López and Spencer Horwitz were thrown out at the plate to put an end to what looked like a promising inning.

The Herd would get on the board in the second, however, as Stevie Berman came around to score on an RBI groundout by Nick Podkul. That would be the only run given up by Mets starter Nate Fisher, who went 4.1 innings and worked around four walks.

Brandon Eisert was the first reliever out the Buffalo bullpen and retired the first six batters he faced, four of them via the strikeout, before Eric Yardley took over in the eighth.

With the bases juiced and nobody out, Yardley plunked Khalil Lee to allow the tying run to cross the plate, before a two-run single by Nick Dini gave the Mets a 3-1 lead.

Trent Thornton took over for Yardley after the latter failed to record an out, and gave up a single to make it 4-1 before striking out the next three batters to get out the jam. Thornton stuck around for the ninth, and struck out another pair to give him five K's over two scoreless innings.

Horwitz, who was promoted to the Bisons on Tuesday, hit his first career Triple-A home run to lead off the bottom of the eighth to make it a 4-2 game; the homer was Horwtiz's third hit of the night, and eighth of the series.

Bryce Montes de Oca would close things out in the ninth to secure the win for the Mets as the Bisons went down in order.

The Bisons and Mets will conclude this series tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch set for 1:05 p.m. EST. The Herd will then have an off-day Monday before travelling to Des Moines, IA for a six-game set with the Iowa Cubs beginning Tuesday.
