Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

WORCESTER, MA -The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (40-43) came back to defeat the Worcester Red Sox on Saturday. Rob Brantly tallied a four-hit game including a game-tying single in the ninth inning.

Domingo Germán made his fourth rehab appearance (first with SWB), nursing a right shoulder impingement. German struck out four batters in four scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit to the first batter he saw in the first inning. Germán in his rehab stint has now gone 14.1 innings while allowing just one earned run (0.63 ERA).

The RailRiders took the advantage against Worcester starter Brian Keller. Brantly lifted a high pop-up to shallow center that dropped in to plate Phillip Evans for a 1-0 lead. It would be the only run they would garner as Oswald Peraza flew out on a deep drive to left with the bases loaded, but Sox outfielder Christin Stewart made a leaping grab to deny a bases-clearing knock.

Jhony Brito relieved for Germán, who was slated to start the game before the rehab announcement. Brito surrendered a run on a sacrifice fly from Johan Mieses to even the game at one in the fifth inning. A Ronaldo Hernández RBI single in the bottom of the eighth gave Worcester their first lead of the game 2-1.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre responded in the top of the ninth inning. Brantly tied the game with an RBI single to left field, his fourth hit of the game. It was his first four-hit game since June 5, 2019 while as a member of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. He completed the feat against the Pawtucket Red Sox on that June day. Worcester was celebrating their franchise history in Pawtucket on what was deemed "Pawsox Heritage Night" at the ballpark. It was the first time they had worn Pawsox jerseys since the end of that 2019 season.

Max McDowell would then drive home the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly to right for a 3-2 advantage. Shane Greene tallied his third save in the last two series with a 1-2-3 ninth. Brito (4-1) was given the win. Zack Kelly (4-2) suffered his fifth blown save and the loss. SWB has won the series and is now just three games back of .500.

The finale of the series is on Sunday afternoon. The RailRiders will send Ken Waldichuk (2-2, 2.52) to the mound. All the action can be heard on the RailRiders Radio Network with first pitch at 1:05 PM.
