Toledo Mud Hens News Release
(OMAHA, NE): Coming off a much-needed win in the previous game, the Toledo Mud Hens looked to obtain back-to-back wins against the Omaha Storm Chasers. RHP Logan Shore took the mound, seeking to redeem himself from his last outing in the series opener. In the series opener, Shore allowed seven earned runs, off five home runs.
The game started as déjà vu from the Fourth of July, as Omaha began the ballgame with a one out solo shot to left. The help from the wind, gave the Storm Chasers an early 1-0 lead. Shore would strike out the next batter and would not let the home run ruin his rhythm. He would retire the next batter, with a lineout to the middle infield, ending the first inning with minimal damage.
In the second inning, the Mud Hens would have three batters reach base with a walk. Toledo's offense walked a total of four times through the first two innings, but the Mud Hens would fail to drive in any of the baserunners, and the score stayed at a 1-0 ballgame. In the bottom half, the Omaha Storm Chasers would start with runners at the corners, before driving in another run. The Storm Chasers took a 2-0 lead with an RBI single to left, and there was still nobody out. RHP Logan Shore would come through, striking out the next batter, and retire the next. The Mud Hens would get the third out of the inning, with a fly out to CF Akil Baddoo, and left the runners on first and second, after a walk and two singles.
Trailing 2-0 in the third, the Mud Hens would answer back with three runs. DH Derek Hill would lead off with a single to left and steal his second bag as a Mud Hen. Then, CF Akil Baddoo would walk to put runners on first and second. Next batter, 3B Brendon Davis would tally his seventh double to score Baddoo and Hill, tying the game at two apiece. With two outs in the inning, Carpenter would hit his fourth double, scoring 2B Jamie Westbrook. The Mud Hens ended the third, leading 3-2.
In the fourth, CF Akil Baddoo would tally his 14th RBI of the year, driving in C Brady Policelli. Policelli hit his first double of the season, prior to the Baddoo at-bat. In the bottom half, RHP Jose Cisnero began another rehab assignment, tallying a 1-2-3 inning. The Mud Hens led 4-2, heading into the fifth.
In the fifth, the Hens extended their lead. RF Daz Cameron would lead off the inning with a single, then steal his seventh bag of the season. With two outs, LF Kerry Carpenter would strike again with a hit, to drive in Cameron. The Hens now had three two-out RBIs in tonight's game.
In the sixth, the Omaha Storm Chasers would hit a solo shot to left, cutting the lead down to two. However, in the top of the seventh with two away, LF Kerry Carpenter would come through with an RBI double, making it his third two-out RBI hit on the night. The Mud Hens now had a total of four two-out RBI hits. The Hens now led 6-3, heading to the eighth inning.
In the eighth, the Mud Hens tallied two more runs. CF Akil Baddoo came in clutch once again with an RBI double for his fifteenth run driven in on the year. Then, DH Derek Hill would score on a wild pitch. The Hens had a comfortable 8-3 lead, heading into the final inning.
The Storm Chasers would tally another run, with a solo shot. However, their rally would come up short, as the Mud Hens took game six of the series, with a score of 8-4. LF Kerry Carpenter finished with an amazing night, tallying a four-hit game with three doubles and RBIs each. RHP Nick Vincent would tally a winning decision in his Mud Hens debut, as well.
NOTABLE BATTERS:
LF Kerry Carpenter: 4-5, 3 RBI, 3 2B
CF Akil Baddoo: 2-3, R, 2 RBI, 2 BB
NEXT UP: The Mud Hens will look to close out the series with a win in Omaha. First pitch will begin at 6:05pm ET.
