Charlotte Knights News Release
(LAWRENCEVILLE, GA) - Designated hitter Micker Adolfo launched his ninth home run of the season, but the Charlotte Knights dropped game five of the six-game series against the Gwinnett Stripers by a score of 5-3 on Saturday night from Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA.
Adolfo roped a solo home run in the top of the seventh of Saturday's game to cut Gwinnett's lead in half at that point, 4-2. One inning later, a wild pitch scored shortstop Laz Rivera from third base to pull the Knights to within one run, down 4-3.
The Stripers added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning thanks to a solo home run from Pat Valaika off Charlotte reliever Daniel Winkler. With a 5-3 lead at that point, the Stripers turned to RHP Roel Ramírez for the ninth and he was able to set the Knights down in order to earn his first save of the season with Gwinnett.
LHP John Parke (2-8, 6.70) started for the Knights and was saddled with the loss despite a solid effort on the mound. Parke allowed four runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings pitched. He fanned five batters and walked three.
Gwinnett starter Bryce Elder (5-4, 5.25) was stellar on the mound and allowed three runs on six hits over eight innings to earn the victory.
The Knights have dropped four of five games in the series and will conclude the six-game set against the Gwinnett Stripers on Sunday afternoon from Coolray Field. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
