RHP Sterling Sharp (1-3, 5.77) vs. LHP Michael Plassmeyer (0-6, 6.32)
UGH, IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY: The Rochester Red Wings lost in a walk-off Friday night despite going into the 9th inning with a 5-2 lead...the Wings fell victim to a three-run game-tying home run and then a subsequent RBI single to fall in dramatic fashion, picking up just their second loss when leading after the 8th inning this year...LF Josh Palacios, SS Ildemaro Vargas, 1B Joey Meneses, RF Donovan Casey, and 3B Adrian Sanchez picked up multi-hit performances in the loss with Sanchez's coming of the three-hit variety...rehabbing Anibal Sanchez went 5.1 innings, throwing 88 pitches while surrendering four hits and just one earned...the Wings bullpen got contributions from RHP Patrick Murphy, RHP Hunter Harvey, and RHP Tyler Clippard who all picked up a hold while bridging the game to closer LHP Alberto Baldonado who ended up suffering the loss.
FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME: Last night, 3B Adrian Sanchez was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a pair of RBI, and a walk...Sanchez reached base in all of his plate appearances for the first time since July 13, 2021 (at SYR, he was 2-for-2 before being pinch-hit for)...it was also the first time the righty reached base four times in a contest since June 24, 2021 (vs WOR)...it was the third time the 31-year-old had multiple extra-base hits in a game this season and the first time since June 5 (vs BUF)...the Wings third baseman also stole home in the top of the 6th as part of a double-steal, marking the first time the Wings have stolen home since May 10 (double-steal).
PUSHING P(ALACIOS): OF Josh Palacios went 2-for-5 in the Wings' loss last night, accumulating two base knocks, two RBI, and was part of the double steal where 3B Adrian Sanchez stole home, taking second base and picking up his 18th swipe of the year, good for second-most on the club...Palacios was part of the last steal of home (5/10) this season, also a double steal, where he swiped home plate...the former Auburn Tiger extended his on-base streak to 17 games (since 6/19), which is the longest on-base streak this season among Wings hitters...the Brooklyn-native is slashing .281/.367/.438 (63-for-224) and has the fourth-most hits (63) on the club this season.
SHARPENING STERLING: RHP Sterling Sharp will start tonight's game at Lehigh Valley as Rochester looks to take a 3-2 series lead over the Bacon men...the righty has an 8.87 ERA (7.1 IP/ 7 ER) in a pair of outings against the IronPigs this season...the former Drury Panther will look to build on his last two outings where he has given up just four earned runs over 10 innings of work (3.60 ERA)...three of Sharp's last four runs allowed have come via a home run.
SWIPER SWIPING: In last night's contest, Rochester logged three stolen bases, the 12th time this season the club has logged three or more bags...for the first time since 5/10, the Red Wings executed a double steal of second base and home with OF Josh Palacios taking 2nd and INF Adrian Sanchez swiping home...after five-straight games without a swipe, the Wings have a stolen bag in each of their last five contests.
THAT'S NOT SUPPOSE TO HAPPEN: Yesterday was the second time this season the Wings had lost when leading after eight innings...prior to last night's contest, the Wings were 32-1 when going into the 9th inning with a lead with their sole loss coming on June 8 in Saint Paul...the Wings held a three-run lead heading into the 9th innings of both losses...LHP Alberto Baldonado blew the save, giving up four runs in the 9th...Baldonado gave up a home run for just the second time in the last two seasons, the other happening on June 1, 2021 (vs. WOR).
CAN'T STOP NOLLING: With a double in the 7th inning 2B Jake Noll extends his hit-streak to eight games, reaching base in 16-of-his-last 17 performances...since his hitting barrage began on June 19 Noll is batting .308 (20-for-65)...the Florida man leads the team in home runs (3), doubles (6) and RBI (12) over his last 17 games.
INNINGS CLIPPER: RHP Tyler Clippard entered yesterday with 1,700 innings pitched in professional baseball (867.1 IP in MLB, 832.2 in MiLB)...the 15-year MLB veteran ranks third among active pitchers in Big League appearances (803)...of the two pitchers ahead of him (Sergio Romo, Joe Smith), neither have more combined professional innings pitched.
T. Clippard professional innings (MLB + MiLB) logged: 1,701.1
S. Romo professional innings (MLB + MiLB) logged: 1,017.2
J. Smith professional innings (MLB + MiLB) logged: 847.0
HIT PARADE: After not having 10+ knocks in a game from June 26 - July 4 (8 games), Rochester has reached double-digit hits in three-straight contests...it is the first time the Red Wings have had three straight games with double-digit knocks since the club did so four times (May 26 - May 29)...the Wings have had four-straight games with 10 or more hits on three separate occasions this season...the last time the Wings had five-straight games with double-digit hits was June 25 - July 1, 2021...despite Rochester's 13 hits, the squad still managed to strike out 11 times, it was just the third game the Wings had struck out 10 or more times this year.
