Buffalo Bisons News Release

ROCHESTER, NY - Despite a pitcher's duel through the first five innings where Casey Lawrence scattered five hits, the Buffalo Bisons were doubled up by the Rochester Red Wings on Tuesday night at Innovative Field.

Lawrence and Jackson Rutledge each left the game without surrendering a run. For Lawrence, the righty allowed just one walk while striking out three in the process. The Red Wings best chance to score off the starter came in the bottom of the third when Erick Mejia was thrown out trying to score from second base.

The McSherrytown, PA native continues to climb up the Bisons Modern Era record books with his 70th career start, putting him second for the franchise since 1985. Three more strikeouts on Tuesday give him 320 for his Bisons' career, the most of any pitcher.

Rutledge left only one runner in scoring position in just his second career Triple-A start. The 24-year-old was removed from the game after giving up back-to-back walks to Davis Schneider and Spencer Horwitz with one out in the sixth. Tyler Danish was able to record the final two outs of the inning to keep the game scoreless.

Rochester scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth off of Zach Pop in his fifth Major League injury rehab assignment. The righty failed to record an out and was charged with three earned runs and the loss. Jake Noll's RBI base hit was the final batter that Pop faced before Jay Jackson secured all three outs in the sixth with the Bisons trailing 3-0.

Buffalo came right back with a pair of runs of their own in the top of the seventh against Danish. Tanner Morris started the two-out rally with a double to right center field and scored on a Cameron Eden single to center, bringing the Herd within a pair, 3-1. Nathan Lukes extended his hitting streak to 15 straight games with a single to left field that scored Eden to trim the deficit to 3-2.

However, a Noll solo home run in the bottom of the eighth increased the Red Wings lead back to two, 4-2. The Herd was able to bring the game-tying run to the plate thanks to a lead-off walk to Rob Brantly. However, Gerson Moreno was able to record back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.

The second game of the six-game series in Rochester is scheduled to start at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday night at Innovative Field. Zach Thompson will start for the Bisons against their Thruway rivals.
