Rochester Red Wings News Release

The Rochester Red Wings outlasted the Buffalo Bisons, 4-2, thanks to a three-run sixth and a scoreless Innovative Field debut from RHP Jackson Rutledge. LF Jake Noll paced the Wings with a home run and two RBI, as Rochester moved to 8-7 in series openers following the Independence Day win.

"It starts with Jackson Rutledge. He kept them off the scoreboard, and gave us a chance. Then, we had the big sixth inning. At the end, we got them," manager Matt LeCroy said.

The Wings and Bisons remained scoreless Tuesday night until the bottom of the sixth inning when RF Travis Blankenhorn broke the stalemate with an RBI single that plated 2B Jeter Downs. Rochester managed to get two runners into scoring position through the first five innings, but were unable to plate any runners until Blakenhorn's hit. 1B Matt Adams continued the scoring for the Wings when an error on his ground ball drove in Blankenhorn.

LF Jake Noll kept the line moving, following up on a 3-0 pitch with an RBI single to drive in DH Franmil Reyes to give Rochester a 3-0 advantage. Buffalo got on the board in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI single from CF Cameron Eden. The Bisons cut the lead to 3-2 on the next at bat when DH Nathan Lukes singled in Eden. Rochester tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Noll smacked his second home run of the season, a solo shot that traveled 420 feet.

RHP Jackson Rutledge made his Innovative Field debut Tuesday night, working 5.1 innings in his second start this season with Rochester. The righty did not allow a run in his outing of three-hit baseball while walking three and striking out a batter. RHP Tyler Danish (1-2, 4.15) came in first out of the bullpen, earning the win, and worked 1.2 innings, giving up two runs on three hits. He was followed by RHP Andres Machado, who went 1.1 innings, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out three. RHP Gerson Moreno closed the door on Buffalo, earning his fourth save of the season.

"It's always fun to pitch on July 4th. That's the mecca of fans being out at the field," Rutherford said. "The goal that I had was to get some scoreless innings at this level. Right now, just continue to put up zeros."

LF Jake Noll earned Tuesday night's Diamond Pro Player of the Game honors after he went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Noll's performance marked his third of the season and the third time he's driven in multiple runs. Through Noll's 237 games played in a Red Wings uniform across three seasons, the righty has slugged 29 homers and registered 247 hits.

"I really like Rochester. I'd probably buy a house here...you have so many local fans who come out here and remember you," Noll said.

The Red Wings return to action tomorrow night for the second game of a six-game series against the Bisons. RHP Jose Ureña is scheduled to start for Rochester against Buffalo's RHP Zach Thompson. First pitch is set for 6:45 p.m.
