Gwinnett Stripers News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Braden Shewmake supplied the pop on the field with his eighth-inning solo home run, capping a late rally as the Gwinnett Stripers (34-48) snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers (40-39) on Tuesday night at Coolray Field. The attendance of 10,067 was the eighth largest in Gwinnett's history and most since July 4, 2014 (10,145).
Decisive Plays: A steal of second base from Omaha's John Rave put him in scoring position for an RBI single from Brewer Hicklen as the Storm Chasers took the early 1-0 lead in the fourth. Gwinnett loaded the bases in the seventh and grabbed the lead without putting the ball in play as Jackson Kowar (L, 2-5) hit Joe Hudson with a pitch and then walked Eli White to make it 2-1 Stripers. Shewmake's solo homer (9) added insurance in the eighth.
Key Contributors: Shewmake (1-for-4, homer, RBI) was the only Striper to record a run-scoring hit in the game. Nolan Kingham (4.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO) was outstanding in his start for Gwinnett, while Roddery Munoz (W, 2-2) struck out four over 2.0 scoreless innings in relief for the win. For Omaha, Ryan Yarbrough (6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 SO) mystified the Gwinnett offense in a dominant start.
Noteworthy: The Stripers are now 11-3 over their last 14 home games. Shewmake is batting .409 (9-for-22) with five extra-base hits (2 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR), four RBIs, and a 1.364 OPS in his last six games. In four starts at home this season, Kingham has a 1.69 ERA (3 ER in 16.0 IP).
Next Game (Wednesday, July 5): Gwinnett vs. Omaha, 7:05 p.m. ET at CHS Field. Broadcast: 6:50 p.m. on MyCountry993.com and Bally Live. LHP Justus Sheffield (1-3, 7.64 ERA) for the Stripers against RHP Brad Keller (0-1, 7.71 ERA) for the Storm Chasers. It's Wet Nose Wednesday at Coolray Field, meaning free admission for dogs with a paid owner on The Bank. The Stripers will also transform into the Xolos de Gwinnett for the fourth time this season, with vibrant uniforms that celebrate the culture and traditions of Gwinnett County's Hispanic and Latino communities.
