Buffalo Bisons News Release
The Buffalo Bisons will open their 2007 season at home on Thursday, April 5 against the Richmond Braves (Atlanta Braves). The game will be part of an eight-game homestand with the first four games against the Braves and the last four (April 9-12) against the Ottawa Lynx.
"We are pleased to announce our home schedule for the 2007 season and give our fans a chance to plan for next season," said Bisons Vice President/General Manager Mike Buczkowski. "With so many Friday night home games late in the season, the summer of 2007 at the ballpark will be magical."
Nine Summer Friday Games Highlight 2007 Campaign
Friday nights at Dunn Tire Park have always been a Western New York summer tradition. In 2007, the ritual continues with 11 fridaynightbash!® dates, including nine during the Summer months and three straight in August (Aug. 10-24). The Bisons will be home on Friday night three times each in June, July and August, with five of those dates coming in the six weeks of July 20 - August 24.
The same can be said for the entire Bisons schedule, with 47 of the 72 scheduled games coming in the summer months (65%). Once again, the 47 summer dates represent an increase from 2006's 46 home summer games. The Bisons will be in Buffalo 16 times in June, 14 times in July and 17 times in August, the most of any month. Each of the three summer months will feature seven home weekend games.
The Herd plays just 13 home games in April and only 12 in May.
Along with their expanded Friday Summer schedule, the Bisons will host 12 Family Fun Day events on Sundays during the season. The Herd will play the fewest games at home on Wednesdays in 2007 (only nine games).
The game times for the entire season will be announced at a later date.
Twentieth Season of Dunn Tire Park
The Bisons home opener on Thursday, April 5 will start their 20th season at Dunn Tire Park. The Herd played their first game in the building on April 14, 1988 and defeated the Denver Zephyrs, 1-0. Since then, the Bisons have posted a 13-6 record in their home openers, including a 9-1 victory over the Columbus Clippers on April 14, 2006. Since Dunn Tire Park opened in 1988, the Bisons have a paid attendance of 16,270,218.
2007 Schedule Highlights
Highlights from the 2007 schedule include the annual School Kids Day on June 4 with a morning first pitch. The Herd will have a season-long 10-game homestand, Wednesday, August 8 - Friday, August 17 with the Ottawa Lynx, Scranton/WB Red Barons and Rochester Red Wings all coming to town. The Bisons will begin the home portion of the 2007 Thruway Series when the Syracuse SkyChiefs come to Dunn Tire Park on Tuesday, April 24. In its tenth year, the Thruway Series features the three Triple-A teams located in New York State. The team with the best winning percentage in head-to-head competition wins the Thruway Cup.
The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra will return to perform their 12th annual Independence Eve Concert and Fireworks extravaganza on Tuesday, July 3rd for the Bisons-Rochester Red Wings game. After an off day on July 4, the Herd will continue a homestand with four games against the Durham Bulls, Thursday, July 5 - Sunday, July 8.
Schedule Format
The International League format is unchanged from last season. Each team is scheduled to play 144 games (72 at home). The Bisons will play North Division opponents 16 times each (eight at home) and the Herd will face teams from the South and West Division 8 times each (four at home).
Notes
The 20th Annual Triple-A All-Star Game will be played on Wednesday, July 11th at Isotopes Park, home of the Pacific Coast League's Albuquerque Isotopes. The Bisons have played 1,360 regular season games (817-543) at Dunn Tire Park and enjoy a winning percentage of .601. Since affiliating with the Cleveland Indians in 1995, the Bisons are 978-739 (.570) during the regular season and have qualified for the post season in nine out of the first 11 years of the agreement. The Herd has won three championships during the affiliation (1997, 1998, 2004).
