Braves and Indians split games

Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves split a pair of games with the Indianapolis Indians Tuesday at The Diamond. The Indians won the completion of a game suspended by rain Monday night 7-4. The Braves bounced back to win the regularly scheduled game 4-3.

The Braves had a 3-1 lead when Monday's game was halted by rain. Brian Jordan whacked a three run homer in the bottom of the first after the Indians picked up a run on two throwing errors in the bottom half. In the fifth the Indians scored twice to tie the game on an RBI single by Vic Butler and a wild pitch. The Braves went back in front on a RBI single by Brayan Pena in the fifth giving Richmond a 4-3 lead. The Indians moved in front to stay in the sixth on a grand slam by Craig Stansberry to make it 7-4.

Ron Chiavacci was the winning pitcher. Peter Moylan took the loss. C.J. Nitkowski picked up a save. Adam Boeve had two hits for the Indians. Pena, Cesar Crespo, and Willy Aybar had two hits each for Richmond.

In the regularly scheduled game, the Braves rallied from a 3-0 deficit. The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice fly by Mike Edwards. Raul Gonzalez knocked in a run with a ground out and Adam Boeve doubled a run home to give the Indians a 3-0 lead in the third. The Braves erupted for four runs in the fourth to move in front. Jamal Strong's infield single produced a run on a throwing error. Dax Norris ripped a double to chase two runs in. Pinch hitter Michael Ryan doubled a run in to make it 4-3.

Will Startup earned the win. Manny Acosta collected a save. Matt Ginter took the loss. Vic Butler had three hits for the Indians. Six Braves had one hit each.
