Big Sticks Take 3 out of 4 to Start the 8 Game Homestand vs the Mankato MoonDogs

June 19, 2025 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Badlands Big Sticks News Release

The Badlands Big Sticks and Mankato Moondogs had an eventful start to the game last night putting up a five spot in the bottom of the 1st inning due to bases loaded walks, an error, and a RBI single from Whitt Joyce (UTSA).

Rain started pouring down during the bottom of the 1st inning and it got much worse and after a pitching change with two outs in the bottom of the 1st inning, a new pitcher was warming up and then umpires decided to pause the game.

There were high winds and it was coming down so bad, rain was coming down sideways. The delay lasted about 30 minutes, and kicked back off at 7:30 P.M.

The Mankato offense was held pretty quiet tonight with just a run in the 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 9th innings, and had six hits and three errors in the first three innings.

Coy DeFury (Texas St) had an RBI single in the bottom of the 4th inning. After stretch time, Troy Berg (Augustana University) picked up his 34th hit with an RBI single in the home half of the 7th which leads the Northwoods League.

Big Sticks were very efficient in all assets and only used three pitchers. Ismael Quintero (Cal St LA) started the game and tossed 5.1 IP, allowing 4 H, 2 ER, 2 K, and 5 BB.

The two way (Kansas) product Gavin Schlotterback came in and dominated going 2.2 IP, 4 K, 1 H, 0 BB, and 0 ER. Lefty Braylen Timmins (Texas St) got the last three outs allowing 1 H, 1 ER, 2 K, and no walks.

Connor Massimini (East Texas Baptist University), Connor Meidroth (University of San Diego), Coy Defury (Texas St), Whitt Joyce, and Shane Miller (University of New Mexico) all with multi-hit games.

The offense contributed 13 hits and drew six walks last night. They were very patient at the plate, but also swung the bats a lot on the first pitch and the aggressiveness paid off for more base-hits.

Badlands will now look to take down the MoonDogs one last time tonight before they host the Duluth Huskies for a series on Thursday and Friday. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. MDT at Dakota Community Bank & Trust BallPark.
