Bees' Shorthanded Attack Beats Thunder

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder lost 5-3 to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at the INTRUST Bank Arena on Friday night.

The Thunder allowed three shorthanded goals in the loss, while outshooting the Killer Bees 46 to 17. 10,114 fans attended the game, ranking as the second-largest crowd in Thunder history.

The Thunder twice pulled within one goal in the third period, but Rio responded each time. Down 3-1, Matt Robinson poked in a rebound at 6:05, but Aaron Lewicki scored his second shorthanded goal of the night at 7:46 to re-extend the lead. After Mike Looby cut the deficit to 4-3 with a power play goal from the low slot at 8:42, the Killer Bees potted the final goal of the game at 12:32 on a score from Dan Gendur.

Troy Schwab scored the first goal of the night at 12:01 in the first period, driving the puck in from the slot after taking Lance Galbraith's pass from behind the left post. Zal McClellan tied the game with a shorthanded goal, during a Wichita two-man advantage, at the 13:55 mark. Wichita had two goals waved off by the officials during the first.

Aaron Lewicki battled through the Thunder slot and scored Rio's second shorthanded goal of the night at the 3:03 mark in the second. Bo Cheesman made it 3-1 at 10:49, scoring on a shot that ricocheted off two posts.

Marc-Antoine Gelinas took the loss, saving 12 of 17. Juliano Pagliaro earned the win, saving 43 of 46. Wichita was 1 for 7 on the power play while Rio Grande Valley was 0 for 3.
