Deleurme, Bloomington Beats RiverKings in Overtime

BLOOMINGTON, IL --- Jason Deleurme's overtime goal with 1:25 remaining gave the Bloomington PrairieThunder a 4-3 victory over the Mississippi RiverKings in Central Hockey League action here Friday, February 11th.

Mississippi evened the score at 2-2 in the first period on a pair of power play goals. Jason Dale opened the scoring for Bloomington with a power play tally at 2:09, but the RiverKings knotted the score at 1-1 on a power play from Matt Boyd over four minutes later at 6:49. The goal was Boyd's fourth of the season and first power play goal.

Bloomington took the lead back at 2-1 later in the first period on a goal from Travis Granbois, but Derek Landmesser evened the game at 2-2 at 12:25 on a power play goal to make the first intermission score 2-2. That tally was Landmesser's sixth of the year and second extra-man red-lighter.

Mississippi took the lead in the second period on an unassisted, shorthanded goal from Brennan Sarazin at 16:15 of the period to give the RiverKings a 3-2 lead going into the third period. Sarazin netted his sixth goal and first shorthanded goal.

But, Bloomington tied the game on a goal from John Snowden at 14:04 of the third period to tie the game and send it into overtime.

Bloomington out shot the RiverKings 43-19 for the game with Mississippi goaltender Larry Sterling (10-9-3) making 39 saves. Marco Emond (20-11-1) made 16 saves in posting the victory.

Mississippi scored twice on the power play in five chances, while Bloomington was 1-for-8 with the man advantage.

Up next, the RiverKings travel to play the Tulsa Oilers tomorrow night at the BOK Center, beginning at 7:35 PM. Broadcast coverage will be available on Sports 56, WHBQ-AM and CHL-TV with Bob Bakken providing the play-by-play at 6:50 PM.

The RiverKings are home Sunday afternoon for a 3:05 PM clash with the Wichita Thunder at Southaven's DeSoto Civic Center. The fight against cancer is the theme of the day, with special jerseys being worn to be auctioned off after the game, eight players playing at least one shift with pink sticks to also be auctioned off, and R.G. Flath will have his head shaved after the game, if $2,500 is donated toward the cancer fight by Sunday.
