LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 6-3 Friday night at Laredo Energy Arena. The Bucks are winless in their last three games (0-2-1) as they fall to 16-23-7 (39 points).
With the loss the Bucks fall one point behind Rio Grande Valley for the final playoff spot in the Berry Conference.
The Mudbugs (24-19-2) raced out to a 3-0 lead as they picked up three goals in the first 12:07 of the game.
Just 34 seconds into the game David Rutherford scored on a breakaway to collect his 29th goal of the season and move him into a tie for first in the league.
The Mudbugs would go up 2-0 around three minutes later when Jamie Milam scored from the left circle to pick up his 11th of the season.
Bossier increased their lead to 3-0 at the 12:07 mark of the first when James DeLory hammered a shot in from the bottom of the left circle to net his fourth of the year.
The Mudbugs outshot the Bucks 11-7 in the first period.
Laredo picked up two goals in 1:30 early in the second period to cut the Bossier lead to 3-2. Jeff Hazelwood cut the Mudbugs lead to 3-1 when he jammed in a rebound on the left side of the crease with the Bucks on the power-play. The goal was Hazelwood's 13th of the season.
Just 1:30 later Neil Trimm rifled in a shot from the bottom of the right circle off of a laser cross ice pass to make it 3-2 Mudbugs. The strike was Trimm's 16th of the season.
The Mudbugs would increase their lead to 4-2 with just 2:53 left in the second when Steve Crampton redirected Milams shot from the point to net his 13th of the season.
The Bucks outshot the Mudbugs 11-10 in the second period.
Bossier increased their lead to 5-2 just 2:48 into the third when Jeff Kyrzakos scored a power-play goal to net his 14th of the year.
Laredo would make it a 5-3 Bossier advantage when Jeff Bes scored a power-play goal from the slot to net his 20th of the season. Bes has scored 20 or more goals in six of his eight seasons in Laredo.
Simon Mangos would score an empty-net goal with 2:27 left in the third period.
Laredo outshot Bossier 12-7 in the third period and 30-28 in the game.
John DeCaro stopped 27 of 30 shots for the Mudbugs while Pier Pelletier set aside 22 of 27 shots for the Bucks.
