Quad City Mallards News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind.- Bobby Preece scored two goals and Adam Russo made 26 saves as the Quad City Mallards defeated the host Fort Wayne Komets 4-2 Friday night. The loss ended the Komets' six-game winning streak, while the Quad City victory was the Mallards' seventh in a row on the road.

The Mallards scored twice in 22 seconds late in the second period to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead and kick off a run of four straight Quad City goals. Bobby Preece got the Mallards on the scoreboard for the first time by forcing the puck in from the side of the net at 17:31 of the second. The Flock moved in front at 17:53 when Obi Aduba swept Eric Giosa's goalmouth feed into the gaping net.

At 8:20 of the third period, Preece struck again with a drive from the top of the left wing circle. The gap widened to 4-1 when Joe Blaznek scored on a breakaway just shy of the midway point of the third.

Having pulled goaltender Nick Boucher for an extra attacker while on the power play, the Komets were given a late spark when Kaleigh Shrock scored a 6-on-4 goal from close range with just 2:24 remaining, but the Mallards held off Fort Wayne the rest of the way.

The Komets had opened the scoring when Leo Thomas buried the puck from the doorstep at 3:59 of the first period, but Quad City's four-goal outburst would give the Mallards control of the contest.

The Mallards return to action on the road tomorrow night against the Evansville IceMen. The Flock next takes to the ice at home next Friday evening, February 18 at 7:05 p.m. against the Bloomington PrairieThunder
