
Bandits Blast Kernels Early and Roll to 10-4 Win

DAVENPORT, IOWA - The Kernels lost 10-4 to the Quad Cities River Bandits on Tuesday at Modern Woodmen Park. The River Bandits jumped ahead of the Kernels early, leading 8-1 after two innings.
Bryan Haar hit his fifth home run of the season for Cedar Rapids. The solo blast came in the second inning for the team's first run, cutting through a stiff wind blowing in from left field. J.D. Williams reached base in all five plate appearances as he collected a single, a double, two walks, and a hit by pitch. River Bandits third baseman Tyler White went 5-for-5 with four runs batted in on the day.
Josue Montanez (0-1) took the loss as he started and only lasted 1 2/3 innings. He allowed eight earned run on seven this while striking out one and walking three.
Quad Cities tallied three runs in the first inning. James Ramsay singled and quickly scored on Chan Jong-Moon's RBI triple into left. Jack Mayfield's RBI single went past the drawn-in infield to put the Bandits up 2-0. Mayfield later scored on White's first of five hits on the afternoon - a RBI single.
Haar's home run in the second inning made the score 3-1, but Quad Cities recorded five runs on four hits in the bottom of the inning. 10 batters came to the plate. Chan-Jong Moon's second RBI triple in two innings plated Ramsay. Mayfield collected another RBI single to make it 5-1. White came up with the bases loaded and cleared the bags with a RBI double, extending the lead to 8-1.
The Kernels fought back with two runs in the third inning to make the score 8-3. Williams was hit by a pitch to begin the inning, and Logan Wade followed with a walk. Mitch Garver's RBI single into right-center plated Williams, and Wade scored when Haar bounced into a double play.
Cedar Rapids scored again in the fourth inning, trimming the deficit to 8-4. Joel Licon drew a walk to start the frame and scored when Wade reached on a RBI fielder's choice.
Ronnie Mitchell homered down the right field line in the fourth inning, pushing the Bandits lead to 9-4. Then in the fifth inning, Chase McDonald singled home Ramsay, who doubled earlier to make the score 10-4.
Chris Cotton (1-2) picked up the win for Quad Cities after pitching 2 2/3 scoreless innings. Jandel Gustave started and allowed four runs over 3 1/3 innings.
For the Kernels, Todd Van Steensel allowed one run over 2 1/3 innings. Christian Powell went three innings and allowed one run while Alex Muren went one scoreless inning.
The Kernels conclude the commuter series at Quad Cities on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Following the three-game series with Quad-Cities, the Kernels play a three-game series at Wisconsin.
RHP Kohl Stewart (1-1, 2.81) will start for the Kernels while Quad Cities counters with LHP Evan Grills (1-0, 3.28)
Cedar Rapids returns home on May 12 to face Peoria in a doubleheader at 5:05 p.m. The doubleheader features another Dollar Monday at the ballpark. Fans can get regular hot dogs, small popcorn, ice cream sandwiches, chips, and Cracker Jacks for $1 each on Monday home games.
