Peoria Chiefs News Release

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs scored all eight of their runs in the seventh inning, with Michael Schulze ripping a pair of RBI singles in the frame, as the Chiefs snapped a three-game losing streak with an 8-4 win over the Beloit Snappers on Tuesday morning. The win gets the Chiefs to an 18-12 record.

Beloit began the scoring in the fourth inning against Arturo Reyes. A one-out walk preceded a homerun by BA Vollmuth giving the Snappers a 2-0 lead. Beloit added an unearned run in the inning on a two-out error by Schulze at third base and back-to-back singles by Sam Roberts and Andy Paz.

The Chiefs had some early chances to score. CJ McElroy Jr. led off the game with a double but was erased trying to get to third on a ground ball to the shortstop. Matthew Young drew a fifth inning leadoff walk, but was caught stealing second for the second out. Mason Katz walked but he was stranded at first base. Peoria loaded the bases in the sixth on a McElroy leadoff single and consecutive two-out walks to Ronald Castillo and Steve Bean, but Young struck out to end the threat.

Beloit added a run in the seventh when Herschel Powell hit a dribbler in front of the plate that Bean mishandled for an error. BJ Boyd tripled him home for an unearned run and a 4-0 Snappers advantage.

The Chiefs snapped their franchise-record 38 1/3 inning scoreless streak in the seventh in a big way. Jake Stone led off with a walk and Katz was hit by a pitch. Schulze broke the shutout with a single to right to score Stone and Katz came in when the throw back to the infield got away. Schulze got to second on the error and McElroy singled to make it a 4-3 game with McElroy advancing to second on the throw home. Juan Herrera laid down a sacrifice bunt right back to the mound and Stuart Pudenz threw the ball into left field to score McElroy and tie the game. Carson Kelly singled to center and Castillo ripped a ground ball to third that went off Vollmuth's glove for an error and Herrera scored for a 5-4 lead. Bean hit a sac fly to score Kelly for the first out of the frame and after a strikeout, Stone hit a double to plate Castillo. Schulze delivered his second RBI hit of the inning, a single to right to score Stone and cap the scoring at 8-4.

Reyes pitched the first 4 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits, three runs (two earned) with two walks and four strikeouts. Chris Perry tossed the next 2 1/3 innings giving up an unearned run on two hits and three strikeouts. He also stranded two inherited runners in the fifth. Kyle Barraclough (1-0) went the next 1 1/3 innings with a walk and four strikeouts while stranding an inherited runner in the seventh. Chris Thomas pitched a perfect ninth with a strikeout.
