Bakersfield Condors News Release

Last Week

Tuesday, FRESNO 3 vs. Condors 2 (SO)

Fresno fought back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to force the extra session, edging Bakersfield in a shootout 3-2 in Fresno. Guy Dupuis scored shorthanded and Brad Mehalko scored in his return from the 30-day IR in the loss for the Condors, who outshot Fresno 35-27 in the game. Dan Tessier's power play goal in the opening minute of the third period served as the game-tying goal.

Wednesday, SAN DIEGO 3 vs. Condors 2

Bakersfield jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 22 seconds in, but the Gulls scored three straight goals to take a commanding lead. Kevin St. Jacques' shorthanded tally just 1:46 into the third period pulled Bakersfield within a goal, but Matthieu Chouinard stood strong in net the rest of the way for the home team.

Friday, CONDORS 1 vs. Fresno 0; attn: 8,215

Paul Rosebush's goal at 15:09 of the third period served as the only goal of the game and Yutaka Fukufuji kicked out 29 shots for his second shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory. The Condors fired a season-high 59 shots on goal and Fresno netminder Jamie Hodson suffered the hard-luck loss.

Saturday, CONDORS 5 vs. Long Beach 4 (OT); attn: 5,850

The Condors erased a 4-0 first period deficit with the help of Vlad Serov's hat trick in a 5-4 overtime victory over the Ice Dogs. Todd Alexander and Paul Rosebush also scored for the Condors, but it was Serov's third of the game just 44 seconds into overtime that sealed the win and vaulted Bakersfield back into first place. Randy Petruk was a perfect 20- for-20 in saves through two periods and overtime in a relief appearance and picked up his 11th win.

Where we stand

The Condors stand alone in first place in the National Conference West Division with a 29-12-8 record and 66 points. They lead Long Beach by one point in the standings and trail the Pensacola Ice Pilots (32-11-4, American Conference, South Division) by just two points in the overall ECHL standings.

Nagel returns from Olympic bid

Condors rookie C Lars-Peder Nagel will return to the Condors lineup this week after missing the last four games to appear in an Olympic Qualifying tournament for next year's Winter Olympic Games. Norway finished 2-1-0 in the tournament, finishing second to Switzerland in their division and will not get an invite to Turin, Italy. Nagel had one assist in three games for Norway, who defeated Denmark (and former Condors G Peter Hirsch) 4-0 and Japan (who was without Condors G Yutaka Fukufuji) 4-3. They lost 3-1 to Switzerland on Saturday.
