THE WEEK AHEAD

Tuesday, February 15th Inferno @ Charlotte Cricket Arena 7:00pm

The Inferno is 3-3-2 against the Checkers this season and 14-6-4 all-time. This is the make-up game from January 29th, which needed to be rescheduled due to inclement weather. Columbia will face Charlotte one more time this season on March 25th. Charlotte is in first place in the East Division with 59 points (28-17-3).

Thursday, February 17th Inferno vs. Greenville Carolina Coliseum 7:30pm

This is the seventh meeting between the Inferno and Grrrowl. Greenville is in fourth place in the East Division with 52 points (24-18-4). Columbia is 5-0-1 against the Grrrowl this season and 21-6-2 all-time.

Friday, February 18th Inferno @ Pee Dee Florence Civic Ctr. 7:30pm

The Pee Dee Pride is in place in the East Division with 49 points (23-22-3). This is the seventh out of 10 meetings between these two teams. Columbia is 4-2-0 this season and 20-8-3 all-time.

Saturday, February 19th Inferno @ South Carolina N. Char. Arena 7:05pm

The Inferno is 4-3-1 against the Stingrays this year and 19-9-2 all-time. This is the eighth game of the season between Columbia and South Carolina. Columbia will face the Stingrays two more times this season. South Carolina is tied with the Inferno for second place with 55 points (25-16-5). The Inferno has four games at hand on the Stingrays.

LAST WEEK

Tuesday, February 8th Inferno 2 CHARLOTTE 3 (SO)

Trevor Demmans passed the puck up the ice to Derek Eastman as he carried the puck from the red line and scored at 7:11 on the power play. Charlotte tied the game at 8:27 with a goal by Mike Harder. At 12:28, D'Arcy McConvey gave the Inferno the 2-1 lead with help from Demmans and John Longo. In the third period, Charlotte tied the game as Eddie Pershin pushed the puck passed Inferno goaltender Mike Minard at 1:41. After an overtime period and a shootout, the Inferno gained a point in the East Division as they trail the Checkers by three points in the standing. The Inferno does have four games at hand on Charlotte. Mike Minard stopped 34 of 36 shots on goal as he tallied a shootout lose to bring his record to 15-3-3.

Friday, February 11th INFERNO 3 Louisiana 2

The Columbia Inferno open the first of two home games with a 3-2 win against the Louisiana IceGators. Louisiana struck first when Wes Mason scored at 5:28 in the first period with a shot between the legs of Inferno goaltender Rob McVicar. The Inferno held strong in the second period with a wide-open net goal by D'Arcy McConvey at 4:13 as Bryson Busniuk sent the perfect cross-ice pass. Tim Smith scored his first goal this season at 9:19 as he flipped a backhanded shot over the shoulder of Nathan Marsters to give the Inferno a 2-1 lead. John Longo and Sean Owens assisted on Smith's goal. Columbia went up 3-1 with a wrist shot by Eric Boulton, his sixth goal of the season, at 4:07 of the third period. Ryan Campbell and Brian Reaney had the assists.

Saturday, February 12th INFERNO 2 Louisiana 0

The Columbia Inferno stopped the IceGators 2-0 in their second consecutive game this weekend. Matt Ulwelling scored his 10th goal of the season on the rebound of a Trevor Demmans shot to give the Inferno a 1-0 lead at 8:54 of the second period. At 13:02, Demmans netted his second goal of the season as he went top shelf over the shoulders of goaltender Nathan Marsters. Walker McDonald and Tim Smith had the assists on the goal. Mike Minard recorded his third shutout with the Inferno stopping 25 shots as he improves his record to 16-3-3.
