Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release

LAST WEEK: The Pride went 1-2-1 last week, ending their 10-game winless streak on Saturday with a win over Charlotte. Pee Dee is 23-22-3 for 49 points and is in fifth place in the East Division. The Pride are in ninth place in the American Conference, trailing eighth-place Gwinnett by two points for the final playoff spot.

Tuesday, February 8 @ South Carolina Stingrays 4 PRIDE 2

South Carolina got off to a quick start, as Ed Courtenay tallied just 1:51 into the contest. The Pride tied it at 7:50 on Jake Wiegand's fourth of the season. Carlyle Lewis put the Stingrays back on top 3:25 into the second period, banking a shot off of the post into the net. Allan Sirois tied the game again on his 15th of the season at 3:09 of the third period. South Carolina went ahead for good on a Trevor G. Johnson goal at 10:35, and then set the final on a Robin Gomez empty netter with 1:15 left.

Wednesday, February 9 @ Charlotte Checkers 7 PRIDE 3

Charlotte led 2-0 after one on a pair of Dusty Jamieson goals. The Pride pulled within one just 1:11 into the second on a Gregg Johnson unassisted goal. That would be as close as Pee Dee would get as Charlotte scored four unanswered goals to take a 6-1 lead midway though the third period. Jeff Szwez and Jan Vodrazka added tallies late for the Pride, sandwiched around a Checkers' goal from Steve MacIntyre, to set the final.

Friday, February 11 v. Greenville Grrrowl 3 PRIDE 2 (SO)

The Pride's losing streak ended at nine games as they were able to pick up a point in an overtime loss to Greenville. J.F. Plourde put the Grrrowl on the board 1:19 into the game, sliding a rebound past Nick Boucher. The Pride came right back to tie it at 3:57, as Steve Cygan scored in his first game in a Pride sweater. Greenville retook the lead 7:23 into the third period on another rebound goal, this one off of the stick of Alex Kojevnikov. Allan Sirois tied it with his 16th of the season at 12:38. In the shootout, the Grrrowl scored on three of five shots, while the Pride managed just one goal on four shots.

Saturday, February 12 v. Charlotte PRIDE 1 Checkers 0 (OT)

Ben Knopp scored his first goal in a Pride sweater 3:10 into overtime, to help the Pride end their 10-game winless streak. Sebastien Laplante turned aside all 22 Checkers shots he faced to record his fourth shutout of the season.
