Augusta Grabs Five Of Six Points This Week
February 14, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
The Lynx capped a solid week by earning five of a possible six points with wins at home Friday and Sunday, and notching an overtime point against the Grrrowl in Greenville on Saturday.
Friday night Augusta finished out their season series with the Florida Everblades, winning a tough victory by a 2-1 margin. Matt Dzieduszycki provided a goal and an assist on Jamie Johnson's game winner to pace the offense, while Jason Saal made 26 saves to earn the win. Augusta finishes their seven game season series with the Everblades with a 3-3-1 mark this year.
Saturday the Lynx traveled to Greenville for the final time in the 2004-05 Season, and came back from a 1-0 deficit with a pair of third period goals by Eric Johnasson and Ken Magowan for a 2-1 advantage. With just 3.8 seconds remaining and the Grrrowl net empty, Kenny Smith's seeing-eye shot from the point found its way past Matus Kostur to tie the game at 2-2 to force overtime. In the extra session, Greenville capped their comeback on Brent Henley's game winner at the 2:57 mark for a 3-2 win.
Capping the week with a Sunday matinee contest against the Charlotte Checkers, Augusta roared out to a 3-0 lead on a pair of power play goals by Matt Dzieduszycki, and a single man advantage marker from Eric Johansson. Charlotte would respond with a power play goal of their own to end the second period at 3-1. In the third, the Checkers again found the scoreboard to make it 3-2 just 1:12 into the third period. Johansson's second PP goal of the game made it 4-2, followed by Ken Magowan's even strength marker for a 5-2 advantage. Charlotte, however, added a pair of four-on-four goals just 26 seconds apart to close the gap to 5-4 with just over five minutes remaining. Dzieduszycki would re-emerge to score a hat trick into an empty net for Augusta, and seal a 6-4 win for the club. Jason Saal made 24 saves to earn the win, while Alex Westlund turned aside 25 in the loss for the Checkers.
