General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have recalled Defenseman Anton Babchuk from the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League.

Babchuk, 21, was the Blackhawks' 1st round pick (21st overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. The 6.05, 212 pound defenseman appeared in 22 games at Norfolk this season and had 4 goals, including 2 on the power play, and 4 assists for 8 points with 18 penalty minutes.

Last season, Babchuk played in 66 games for Norfolk and had 8 goals and 16 assists for 24 points with 88 penalty minutes. He also appeared in 2 playoff games but did not score.

In 2003-04, Babchuk made his NHL debut with the Blackhawks appearing in 5 games and posting 2 assists with 2 penalty minutes.

Babchuk will wear jersey number 8.
