Binghamton Senators News Release
LAST WEEK: The Senators defeated the Albany River Rats on Saturday to earn two points in three games last week. Binghamton now has a 7-13-2-1 record and occupies sixth place in the East Division.
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 30TH @ NORFOLK (4-5 L): Norfolk beat Binghamton 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon thanks in part to a natural hat trick from forward ANDY HILBERT, who scored his first three goals of the season in the game. Binghamton entered the final period down 2-1, but PATRICK EAVES scored his second power-play goal of the game and defenseman BRENNAN EVANS scored his first goal in 130 AHL games to put Binghamton ahead 3-2 early in the third period. It was then HILBERT time as the forward scored three goals in a span of six minutes and 44 seconds to give Norfolk a 5-3 lead. BRANDON BOCHENSKI, playing in his last game before a call up to Ottawa, scored the Senators final goal only 16 seconds after HILBERT'S last tally. But Binghamton could not score the equalizing goal on Admirals goaltender ADAM MUNRO, who stopped 35 of 39 shots in the game. JEFF GLASS stopped 23 of 28 shots in the loss for Binghamton. Both teams converted on two of eight power plays.
FRIDAY, DEC. 2ND @ PHILADELPHIA (0-2 L): The Senators were shutout for the first time this season as the Phantoms won 2-0 on Friday evening. Binghamton took only two shots in the first period, tying a franchise record for fewest shots in a period. But the game would remain scoreless until defenseman DAVID PRINTZ scored the only goal allowed by KELLY GUARD at 13:50 of the second period. Philly's only other goal was an empty-net tally by ERIC CHOUINARD with 25 seconds remaining in regulation. Both teams were scoreless in six power-play tries. GUARD earned third star honors by stopping 31 of 32 shots.
SATURDAY, DEC. 3RD @ ALBANY (2-1 W): The Sens broke a four game losing streak on Saturday night in Albany as DENIS HAMEL scored twice and KELLY GUARD stopped 24 of 25 shots in his fifth win of the season. HAMEL, who had not scored in five AHL games, opened the scoring a 4:15 of the first period. JASON RYZNAR tied the game a 3:04 of the middle period with his third goal of the season before HAMEL scored a short-handed game-winning goal at 13:43 of the second. Binghamton received 11 power plays, but did not convert on any of the chances. Binghamton outshot Albany 44 to 25 in the win.
THIS WEEK: The Senators play the first of four straight home games beginning with a 7:05 p.m. Friday night game against Hershey.
FRIDAY, DEC. 9TH vs. HERSHEY (7:05 p.m.): Retro weekend & Teddy Bear toss: The B-Sens will wear Ottawa Senators retro jerseys, circa 1920, on Friday and Saturday night. It is also Teddy Bear toss night on Friday. All Teddy Bears, and other stuffed animals, thrown on the ice during first intermission will be donated to charity. Binghamton will be looking for their first win of the season against the Bears on Friday night at the Arena. The Bears have outscored the Sens 9 to 5 in the two previous meetings between the squads this season. The Senators have a 7-6-2-2-1 (W-L-T-OTL-SOL) all-time record against Hershey. Hershey has lost only four of 24 games in regulation and occupies second place in the East Division with a 14-4-2-4 record and 34 points. Rookie forward ERIC FEHR is tied for third among rookies in scoring with 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists) in 24 games. Hershey's power play is second in the league (22.9%), trailing only the Rochester Americans.
SATURDAY, DEC. 10TH vs. ROCHESTER (7:05 p.m.): Retro jersey auction: Retro Ottawa Senators jerseys worn by the B-Sens during the weekend will be auctioned to the public following Saturday's game. Binghamton has earned a point in each of its 12 home games against Rochester. The Sens are 7-0-2-2-1 (W-L-T-OTL-SOL) at home and 12-6-3-2-1 overall against the Amerks. Winger JASON POMINVILLE continues to lead the AHL in goals with 19 in 18 games. The Amerks are third in the North Division with a 13-10-0-0 record and 26 points. Rochester's power play is the best in the league with a 25.8 percent conversion rate.
