Peoria Rivermen News Release

Tons of Teddy Bears and stuffed animals hit the ice, nearly 1,500, on Sunday evening at approximately 5:15 p.m., as the Peoria Rivermen, in cooperation with the Peoria Fire Department, held the first ever Teddy Bear Toss to benefit Peoria area needy children.

The Peoria Fire Department, along with Rivermen game day staff, corralled some 30 trash bags full of 40 or more bears each at 13:10 of the first period, after Jon Disalvatore slapped home a power play from just off the left goal post for a 1-0 Peoria lead in an eventual 5-1 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals.

"We had a tremendous response for our first-ever Teddy Bear Toss and we look forward to building quite a tradition with this," said Bart Rogers, Rivermen President/CEO. "It never fails that our loyal Rivermen fans and community supporters respond when we bring charitable efforts to the table, such as this."

The Rivermen host the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights on Wednesday, December 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Carver Arena. Peoria then welcomes Milwaukee back to town on Saturday, December 10 at 7:00 p.m. It's U.S. Cellular Cap Night for the first 3,000 fans.
