Las Vegas Aviators News Release

Las Vegas's Collin Doebler has been elected the Pacific Coast League's Sports Turf Manager of the Year, President Branch B. Rickey announced Thursday. Doebler is the first groundskeeper to win the award for the Las Vegas franchise.

"I'm so happy for Collin being named the PCL's Groundskeeper of the Year," Aviators President/ COO Don Logan said. "No one is more deserving than him, with the time and effort and his expertise, the playing surface is the best in the PCL. In all the years he was the head groundskeeper at Cashman Field, the field always had a good playing surface. His entire crew have done a great job and Collin is truly the best of the best and we are lucky to have him."

Voting for the award was done through balloting of the League's 16 field managers and on-field officials. It is based on 11 different categories, including the preparation of the field for the game and the overall playing surface. Doebler, along with the International League's recipient, are the candidates for the Triple-A classification award from The Sports Turf Managers Association, which will be announced at the 2019 Baseball Winter Meetings in San Diego, Calif.

Doebler, in his fifth season working on the grounds for the Las Vegas club, has over 20 years of experience working on turfgrass fields. He attended Michigan State University, where he received a certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy and Crop Science from 1995-1997.

As runners-up to Doebler, the PCL will recognize two other groundskeepers with Presidential Commendations. Albuquerque's Clint Belau and Iowa's Chris Schlosser will both be honored for their outstanding work this year.
