Beloit Sky Carp News Release
CLINTON, IA - In a back-in-forth battle, the Beloit Snappers won an absolute thriller to defeat the Clinton LumberKings by a final score of 11-9 in 12 innings. Beloit outhit Clinton with 11 hits and 10 walks wreaking havoc on Clinton pitching all night long.
Beloit would jump out first in the ballgame tonight, landing a 5 spot on the board through the first 5 innings. Beloit would score first with a 3 spot in the third inning and a run each in the fourth and fifth innings.
Lester Madden and Devin Foyle would start the third inning off by each singling to put runners on first and second with no outs. After a sacrifice bunt from Joseph Pena, John Jones singled to left field to plate both Madden and Foyle giving the Snappers the 2-0 lead.
After a brief mound visit and fielding error by Clinton, Nick Ward would single up the middle to plate Jones and extend the Snappers lead to 3. However, the boys were not done there getting the bats going again each of the next two innings.
In the fourth, Santis Sanchez would double to left field to open up the frame. Moments later, Anthony Churlin would extend his hitting streak to 8 consecutive games by singling up the middle and plating Sanchez to push the lead to 4-0.
Just one inning later, Beloit would tack on another run after putting runners on second and third with one out. Already leading 4-0, Santis Sanchez would continue his strong day at the plate hitting a deep fly ball for a sacrifice fly to score Michael Woodworth and push the lead to 5.
However, the 5 runs were not enough to hold the lead, as Clinton would get all 5 back starting in the fifth inning. After Clinton put up a 3 spot in the fifth, they were able to push across 2 more in the seventh to even the score, but Beloit would stir up some more of their late-inning magic to create some fireworks in Iowa tonight.
In fact, it would not be until the eleventh inning before Beloit would get the bats going again, but would they ever, hanging a 3 spot on the board.
In the eleventh, Beloit would get the bats going with a Devin Foyle single to put runners on first and second with no outs. After a Joseph Pena walk, the reigning MWL Player of the Week, Anthony Churlin, would be back to his good hitting ways smashing a single up the middle to plate Madden and break the 5-5 tie.
Moments later, John Jones would work himself a walk with the bases loaded to plate Foyle and continue the pressure on Clinton. Then, to cap the inning off, Michael Woodworth hit an infield single to plate Pena and give the Snappers the 3-run lead heading into the bottom half.
In the bottom half though, 3 runs would not be enough to secure the win as Clinton would answer right back with 3 of their own to even the game out at 8 again. But the fireworks would be far from over in the ballgame heading to the 12th .
In the twelfth, Beloit would drop another 3 spot on the board all thanks to Jones this time. With the bases loaded, 2 outs, and 2 strikes on Jones, he would rip a double into the left center field gap to clear the bases and give the Snappers the 11-8 lead.
In the bottom half, Clinton would only be able to push one run across as infielder Nick Ward would slam the door shut securing the 11-9 victory and the third straight win for Beloit.
Beloit will be back in action tomorrow looking to finish out the series sweep and pull to within 7 games of the second wild card spot with a win. Beloit will then return home on Wednesday to take on the Chiefs in a short 3-game homestand with Fireworks Friday night.
