Admirals Fall in Shootout to Falcons

NORFOLK, Va. - Marc-Antoine Pouliot put the Norfolk Admirals (24-13-7-3) ahead 2-1 late in regulation. However, Kyle Wilson tied the game late and the Springfield Falcons (21-22-1-3) scored on all three shootout attempts to defeat the Admirals, 3-2, on Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. The same two teams will square off again tomorrow night at Scope at 7:15 p.m.

Dustin Tokarski stopped 18 of 20 shots through regulation and overtime.

The Admirals struck first with Jones' thirteenth goal of the season just 1:42 into the game. Mike Angelidis picked off a pass along the left half wall and sent a pass to Jones in the slot. Jones then fired a wrist shot past the blocker side of Falcons goaltender Gustaf Wesslau for a 1-0 Norfolk lead.

Springfield tied the game with a power play goal 10:33 into the second period. Jonathan Sigalet sent a pass from the right corner to Chris D'Alvise, who was cutting through the slot. D'Alvise re-directed the pass beyond the right leg of Tokarski to tie the game at 1-1.

Norfolk went ahead 2-1 midway through the third period on Pouliot's twelfth goal of the season. Marc-Andre Bergeron sent a shot from the slot off Wesslau's pads. Pouliot found the rebound and fired a shot over Wesslau at 11:36.

However, the Falcons knotted the game at 2-2 with only 2:37 remaining in regulation. John Moore sent a shot from the left point that Kyle Wilson deflected past Tokarski.

The Admirals dominated overtime territorially, out-shooting Springfield 4-1. However, they were unable to solve Wesslau.

In the shootout, the Falcons scored on all three of their shots while Johan Harju was the only player to convert one of Norfolk's four chances as Springfield claimed the shootout 3-1 and the game 3-2.

Dustin Tokarski (20 shots, 18 saves) took the shootout loss. Gustaf Wesslau (37 shots, 35 saves) earned the win.

Norfolk was 0-4 on the power play. Springfield was 1-4.

The same two teams will square off again tomorrow night at Scope with a 7:15 p.m. faceoff. Prior to that, the Norfolk Police Department will play the Norfolk Fire Department in the annual Guns and Hoses Game at 4:30 p.m. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. and a ticket to the Admirals game gets you in to the Guns and Hoses Game, which benefits the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters.
