Ales Kotalik Assigned to Abbotsford Heat

CALGARY, AB - The Calgary Flames announced today that forward Ales Kotalik has been assigned to the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League. Kotalik is scheduled to join the Heat on February 2nd in Chicago. "I want to start rewarding our players in Abbotsford who have earned and deserve recalls, and I want to give Brent more options with respect to his line-up and sitting players who are not delivering," said Flames Acting General Manager Jay Feaster. "This assignment gives us the roster flexibility we need going forward, and it demonstrates that we are serious about doing whatever it takes to continue our push to make the playoffs."

Kotalik was originally acquired by the Flames from the NY Rangers on February 1, 2010. Following training camp in which he recorded three goals and two assist in four games, Kotalik suffered an injury on October 1st in Edmonton that caused him to miss the first 26 games of the 2010-11 season. In 20 games since his return, he has scored three goals. The 32 year old was originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the 6th round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
