Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans defeated the Manitoba Moose 2-1 on "Hall of Fame Night," tonight at The Blue Cross Arena. With the win, in front of a season-high crowd of 6,137, the Amerks improve to 20-23-3-2 with their second straight win and third in their last four games.

Leading the way for the Amerks was top star of the night and team-point leader Michal Repik (1+1). Right behind him were Clay Wilson (0+2) and Scott Timmins (0+1), earning the second and third star of the night, respectively. Wilson and Timmins both skated on the ice for the first goal, and Wilson also contributed a helper on the game-winner.

Rochester's netminder Jacob Markstrom also put up another solid performance blocking 33 of 34 shots, including all that he faced in the final minute of play as Manitoba kept the pressure on with a last-chance six-on-five effort to end the game. Since returning from his NHL stint in Florida, Markstrom has made a total of 67 saves and has gone 2-0.

The only goal scored for Manitoba in the contest was a short-handed shot from Garth Murray (1+0) to even things out early in the last period.

Both teams put up a strong defensive effort in the first, leaving the game scoreless after one. Throughout the opening period, the Amerks only managed to take four shots on goal, while the Moose ended with 11.

Despite no tallies on the double-minor power-play opportunity at the start of the second frame, the Amerks got on the scoreboard first with Repik's eighth goal of the season on a four-on-four play. After Timmins fed him the puck from behind the Manitoba net, Repik fired a shot from the middle of the slot and beat Moose netminder Eddie Lack at 4:52. Wilson also assisted on the play.

Manitoba finally put their mark on the board after a little more than 45 minutes of play to even things out at one. After Travis Ramsey picked up the puck in their zone, he sent it sailing down to an unmatched Murray. Murray then skated between the face-off circles and setup Markstrom on the left, leaving the right side open for the evener. Amerks surrendered their 12th short-handed goal, a league worst, on the goal, including their seventh at home.

The Amerks regained the lead at 10:17 of the third with help from winger Triston Grant. Wilson sent a pass across the crease to Grant who then tipped the puck in what would be the game winner, for his fourth goal of the season. Repik also picked up his second point on the night.

The Amerks head to the Capital District of New York on Saturday, January 29th as they take on the Albany Devils at 7:00 p.m. from the Times Union Center. The matchup will be the final for both teams before the 2011 AHL All-Star break. Fans can tune in for all the live action on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk.
