Admirals Hand Rivermen Lopsided Loss

A four-goal second period was more than enough for the Milwaukee Admirals to defeat the Peoria Rivermen 8-1 on Friday night at the Bradley Center. The 8-1 decision marked a season-high in goals for the Admirals and goals-against for the Rivermen.

It is just the second time since joining the AHL that the Rivermen have allowed at least eight goals in a game. The only previous occurrence came in an 11-5 loss to Chicago on Dec. 30, 2005.

Blake Geoffrion collected five points (2g, 3a), Linus Klasen (1g, 2a) and Ryan Thang (1g, 2a) had a three point nights. It marked the first time this season that Peoria failed to earn a point against Milwaukee (2-1-1-1).

The Admirals' Geoffrion scored on the very first shot of the game just 42 seconds into the opening frame in which they outshot the Rivermen 16-3. After Klasen rang one off the crossbar, Geoffrion picked up the rebound in the corner, walked to the slot and wristed it over Bishop's glove.

The Admirals capitalized on their first shot of the second period as well and then capitalized three more times in the period. Mark Van Guilder, Andreas Thuresson, Chris Mueller and Klasen found the back of the net in the middle frame giving the Admirals a 5-0 lead at the end of two.

The first shot of the third period went in as well, but this time it came off the stick of Mark Cundari for the Rivermen. It was Cundari's sixth of the year on the power play assisted by Nathan Oystrick and T.J. Hensick at 1:11.

Less than a minute later the Admirals got a power-play goal of their own from Thang, his sixth of the season.

Immediately off the ensuing faceoff, Ryan Reaves and Kelsey Wilson dropped the gloves. Only 6 seconds later, Anthony Peluso fought Scott Ford. And just 14 seconds later, Phil McRae dropped the gloves with Grant Lewis but the wrestling match drew them both four-minute double minors for roughing.

Geoffrion added his second goal of the night at 12:55 and Jonathan Blum capped the scoring, on the power play, at 16:15.

The Rivermen went 1-for-4 on the power play while the Admirals were 1-7. The Admirals outshot the Rivermen 32-27.
