Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals will enter a six-game homestand on a six-game point streak by entertaining the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Binghamton Senators at Scope this week.
Last week, the Admirals won their first two games following the All-Star Break on the road in Binghamton and Wilkes-Barre. On Friday night, Paul Szczechura had three points and Radek Smolenak had a regulation goal and the winning shootout conversion as the Admirals defeated the Senators 4-3. On Saturday, third period power play goals by Szczechura and Smolenak led the Admirals to a 4-3 victory over the Penguins.
This week, the Admirals will have rematches against both the Penguins and Senators at Scope. On Wednesday night, Binghamton comes to Scope for a 7:15 matchup. Friday and Saturday night will feature 7:15 contests against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. This week also marks the inductions for the first class of the Admirals Hall of Fame. The induction dinner is on Thursday night and the inductees will also be honored during a pre-game ceremony on Friday night. ADMIRALS RBK/AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE
Rookie Center Paul Szczechura garners his third straight Norfolk nomination for the Rbk AHL Player of the Week award. Szczechura was first star in both of the Admirals' games last week, compiling two goals and three assists for five points in a pair of Norfolk road victories. On Friday in Binghamton, he scored his first professional three-point game by taking part in every regulation goal (1-2-3) in a 4-3 shootout win against the Senators. On Saturday in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, he scored the go-ahead goal and assisted on the eventual game-winning goal in a 4-3 victory over the Penguins. Szczechura now has goals in five consecutive games (5G) and has points (6-6-12) in all eight games since joining Norfolk in a January 15 trade from Iowa (AHL). Szczechura's goal streak is the longest current streak in the AHL and is tied for the third longest this season. His point streak is the fifth-longest current streak in the AHL and trails only Norm Milley's nine-game point streak for the longest with the Admirals this season. He has more than tripled his season point total (8-9-17) since starting the season with five points (2G, 3A) in 29 games with Iowa.
