Admirals Drop a Pair to Chicago Last Week

OVERALL... The Admirals enter the third week of the season with a symmetrical 1-1-1-1 record, good for four points and a fifth place tie in the West Division. The Admirals are off for the next four days before they commence their first three-in-three of the season. The Ads go to Grand Rapids on Friday night before coming back home on Saturday to host Abbotsford and then heading down to Chicago on Sunday afternoon.
LAST WEEK...The Admirals dropped a pair of 3-2 decisions to Chicago last week, falling in overtime on Friday night and then in a shoot-out on Saturday. On Friday, Milwaukee led 2-0 heading into the third, but goals by Andre Deveaux and Patrick Rissmiller tied the game for Chicago and they won it on a Jamie Sifers tally with 51 seconds left in the extra session. Linus Klasen scored both of the Admirals goals, including the first on a penalty shot, while Chet Pickard stopped 22 shots on the night. Then on Saturday the Ads took a 2-1 advantage after 40 minutes but again couldn't hold the lead and the game eventually went to a shoot-out where Chicago was successful on three of four shots, while Milwaukee managed to convert just one of their attempts.
EIGHTY-SIX IT...Rookie forward Linus Klasen has had quite a start to his North American career. The Swedish forward tallied a pair of power-play goals to help propel the Ads by the Heat on opening night and then scored both the Admirals goals October 15 to give him four on the season. Klasen, who wears jersey number 86 because it was the year he was born, has the highest number since Dave Saunders wore 89 during the 1988-89 season. Last year Klasen tied for fifth in the Swedish Elite League in points (51) and ranked ninth in goals (19) in 51 games during his third season playing at Sweden's highest level.
A LONG TIME COMING...The Admirals first goal of the night last Friday came on a penalty shot as Klasen was taken down from behind on a breakaway. It was the first penalty shot awarded to the Admirals during the regular season since Rich Peverley was given one on February 29, 2008 against the Providence Bruins. Klasen made good on his attempt (Peverley did not) and thus became the first Admiral to score on a penalty shot since Mike Santorelli did it on November 16, 2007 in a 4-3 win over San Antonio.
ONE GOES UP...The Predators have recalled Nick Spaling from the Admirals. Spaling has posted two points (1g-1a) through four games with the Admirals this season. In his rookie NHL campaign of 2009-10, the Drayton, Ont., native put up three assists in 28 games for the Predators. He posted a plus or even rating in 26 of those contests and ranked fifth among rookie forwards in average shorthanded ice time (1:43). Nashville's third choice, 58th overall (second round) in the 2007 Entry Draft also dressed for all six of the club's 2010 Stanley Cup Playoff contests. In parts of three seasons in Milwaukee, Spaling has totaled 20 goals and 34 assists for 54 points to go along with 51 penalty minutes.
ANOTHER COMES DOWN...The Predators have also reassigned netminder Mark Dekanich to the Admirals. Dekanich backed up rookie netminder Anders Lindback for three games during his five-day recall to Nashville, his first NHL promotion. He returns to the Admirals where he's posted a 1-0-0 record with a 1.22 goals-against average and a .951 save percentage thus far in 2010-11. In 2009-10, Dekanich ranked fifth among AHL goaltenders in goals-against average (2.33), tied for fifth in shutouts (4) and tied for eighth in wins (27).
THREE-IN-THREE...The Admirals confront their first three-game-in-three-night stretch this weekend when they sandwich a home game on Saturday night against Abbotsford between road games in Grand Rapids on Friday and Chicago on Sunday. This is the first of eight times this year that the Ads will play three-in-three, which is three more than they played last season but still shy of the team record ten that they played in 2006-07.
THAT SCORE AGAIN...The Admirals currently find themselves on a three game losing streak, although they have points in two of those, and the score in all three games has been 3-2. The Ads dropped a 3-2 decision to Peoria their second game of the season and then lost both games last weekend by that same score. The six goals Milwaukee scored in those contests equals the number they tallied in an opening night win over Abbotsford.
OVER THE AIR AND ON THE WEB...For the fourth consecutive season Sportsradio 1250 WSSP will serve as the Admirals flagship station with Aaron Sims calling all of the hard-hitting end-to-end action.
