Stars Sign D Matt Stephenson to ATO

Des Moines, IA - The Iowa Stars announced today that the hockey club has signed defenseman Matt Stephenson to an amateur tryout contract through the end of the 2007-2008 season.

Stephenson, 24, joins the Stars following his senior season at St. Cloud State University where he served as captain of the team. The 6-2, 204 pound defenseman played in 40 games his senior season, notching 2 goals and 9 assists. During his college career at SCSU, Stephenson played in 141 games with 7 goals and 44 assists. He finished first all-time in school history with a career +42.

Prior to seasons at SCSU, Stephenson played junior hockey with the Nepean Raiders of the Central Junior A Hockey League where he helped lead the team to their first and second Bogart Cup titles and their first ever Fred Page Cup title.
