Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (16-15-6-7) defeated the Phoenix RoadRunners 6-1 Saturday night at the E-Center before 5,362 fans.
The Grizzlies again competed with just 13 skaters and Islanders goaltending prospect Peter Mannino stopped 24 of 25 shots. Utah scored six-straight goals in the game after falling behind 1-0 4:19 into the first. The Grizzlies tallied two goals in each the first, second and third periods never letting their foot off of the accelerator.
Nine of Utah's 13 skaters scored in the game with six of those players collecting multiple-point games. James Brannigan had three assists for his first ECHL hat trick and the Grizzlies first hat trick of the year. Rob Hennigar also chipped in three assists.
"I can't say enough, it's obviously the biggest win of my career thus far with the number of bodies we had in the lineup," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "I'm just so proud of our guys to stick to our game plan and play with so much heart and desire and have the willingness to block shots even up to the final buzzer. I can't say enough about every guy as they pulled together as a team."
Utah had only 13 skaters for the second-straight night as five players have been called up to the AHL since Wednesday.
The Grizzlies return to action Tuesday and Wednesday to host Bakersfield at the E-Center. Face-off both nights is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
