Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - RW Chad Painchaud scored twice and G Yutaka Fukufuji made 26 saves as the Bakersfield Condors took down the Alaska Aces 4-2 in front of 4,618 fans at Rabobank Arena Friday night.

In a fast-paced, physical opening frame, the Condors (15-26-6, 36pts) scored the only goal. C Bruce Graham notched his 14th of the season with just 12 seconds left on the clock in the period to give his team the advantage. D Scotty Balan got the fans on their feet with some pugilism against Aces F Lance Galbraith late in the frame as well. Shots were 12-12 in the period.

Alaska (27-16-3, 57pts) tied the game up in the middle stanza. D Ryan Turek joined the rush and sent a rocket past Fukufuji that dinged off the left post and in. But Bakersfield responded less than three minutes later. LW Mark Derlago snapped in his 15th of the season at 13:57 off a centering feed from F Matt Pope to regain the advantage. It was a lead they would not relinquish. RW Chad Painchaud padded the lead at 18:41 of the second to make it 3-1 after two periods of play.

The Condors defense took over in the third. Surrendering only five shots on goal in the frame and putting up 15 of their own, the Condors didn't let up and held on for the win. Painchaud added his second of the night into the empty net to seal the victory. An Aces power play tally with just 18 seconds remaining accounted for the final score.
